Vehicle Description
By the 1950s, Cadillac had firmly cemented its status as the
"Standard of the World." Its stylish, advanced vehicles were
favored by heads of state and leading entertainers, and they were
highly sought after by the social and economic elite. Despite this,
Cadillac introduced the extravagant and innovative Eldorado
Brougham in 1957, perhaps sensing a challenge to its luxury
dominance. Priced at $13,074, the Eldorado Brougham was more
expensive than any Rolls-Royce or contemporary Lincoln of the time,
making its price a significant selling point. Buyers received a
pillarless hardtop sedan with suicide doors and advanced styling,
featuring quad headlamps and a host of luxury and technology
features. These included a transistorized radio, power memory
seats, automatic locking doors, the Autronic Eye automatic headlamp
dimmer, and a remarkable self-leveling air suspension system, all
standard. Power came from a dual-quad-carbureted 365 cubic-inch V-8
paired with a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission.
Despite the high price, General Motors reportedly lost money on
each Eldorado Brougham sold due to its hand-built nature and
complex technology. However, the Eldorado Brougham was not designed
to be a profit-maker but rather to showcase Cadillac's
capabilities, which it did successfully. The example presented here
is number 29 of 400 produced for 1957. It has undergone an older
restoration and is finished in Maharani Maroon, a correct 1957
Eldorado Brougham color. The interior features Maroon and Taupe
leather upholstery, interior trim, and tan carpets. Remarkably, the
car retains its vanity accessories, including a plastic cigarette
case, metallic tumblers with case, notepad, beveled mirror, Arpege
perfume with atomizer (both believed to be replacements), and an
Evans vanity case with various compartments and items. In 2015, the
suspension was upgraded to a modern Ridetech air suspension with a
hidden controller in the glove box. The original air suspension
compressor remains correctly installed in the well-detailed engine
compartment, preserving the authentic look while providing modern
reliability. Designed to dazzle, the Cadillac Eldorado Brougham
remains as captivating today as it was in 1957. Due to the
attrition of these cherished vehicles, the uniquely American luxury
experience it offers is even more exclusive now. Presented in a
rare color combination and maintained in highly usable condition,
this example provides its next owner the opportunity to experience
the "Standard of the World" firsthand. Offers welcome and trades
considered. For additional details please view this listing
