1-Family Owned, Fully Restored
Professionally restored, 1-family-owned 1958 Volkswagen Sunroof Beetle Type 1 for sale. Purchased new in California by the current owners Uncle Earl, who sold it to his nephew in the early 1980s.
The car was used lightly for fun over the next 20 years then in 2004 he sent it to acclaimed Lenny Copp at West Coast Classic Restorations in Fullerton California for a complete, proper, and authentic restoration back to original. This three-year meticulous revival was completed in 2007. The car has been driven approximately 1000-1500 miles since completion. It is titled as a 1959.
The exterior was completely restored using all German parts, the body was removed and refinished in its original Coral Red. The trim, glass, lenses, and rubber are all immaculate and the car still looks stunning 17+ years later! The only flaws I found are a small dime-sized ding in the front left fender from shipping and a chip at the lower edge of the rear decklid. Otherwise, the exterior is immaculate, smooth with a deep shine, and looks nearly new.
Inside is stunning, replaced with new beautifully sewn original materials, German Square weave carpets and wool headlining. It has proper rubber matting, door panels, cards, and clean, clear gauges, bezels, and switches. The original radio is inoperable and the left blinker does not always auto-cancel. Otherwise, all systems are in good working order.
The car starts, runs, and drives effortlessly without issue. It was completely mechanically restored including the 36 horsepower singleport engine, transaxle, brakes, suspension, and all ancillary items. It was recently serviced and checked over by a local Volkswagen specialist and included lube, oil, valve adjustment, starter relay, and accelerator pump. The tires have 98% tread remaining yet should be replaced due to age. This is a great running example with excellent handling and braking ready to enjoy.
