Am 1LE Player's Challenge Edition. Our 1991 Pontiac Firebird Trans
Am is one of 23 for the model year produced with the R7U regular
production order code, which specified the car for competition in
the Canadian-based Player's LTD/GM Motorsports Series. The car is
finished in Arctic White over gray cloth, and is powered by a 305ci
V8 paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes
the 1LE Special Performance Package, full Player's LTD/GM
Motorsports badging. The car has an aluminum drive shaft, a baffled
fuel tank, four-wheel disc brakes, an engine oil cooler, air
conditioning, and a limited-slip differential. Additional features
include power windows and locks. It was imported from Canada into
the US. This R7U/1LE Trans Am now shows 56k kilometers (35k miles)
and is offered with GM Canada, PHS documentation and import
documents. Commonly known as the Player's Challenge Series, the
Canadian road-racing series featured factory-built, street-legal
Camaros and Trans Am's competing during a seven-year run from
1986-1992. This example is finished in Arctic White ( and features
a rear aero spoiler, pop-up headlights, fog lights, power mirrors,
dual exhaust and race correct decal package. The leather-wrapped
steering wheel fronts a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer, and
gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and
voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 56k kilometers (35k miles).
The fuel-injected 305ci V8 is said to have been hand-built for
R7U-optioned cars. It is also said to feature ECU tuning for
operation with an open exhaust system as well as markings to seal
the engine and prevent modification from stock for Player's
Challenge regulations. The 1LE package added an aluminum
driveshaft, an engine oil cooler, and a baffled fuel tank. A new
GMMG cat back exhaust has been added. Power is sent to the rear
wheels through five-speed manual transmission and a Safe-T-Track
