For Sale: 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado in Columbus, Ohio

Vehicle Description

Cruisin Classics is pleased to present to you this stunning 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado. This was the first year for the Toronado model and this model was the first US-produced front-wheel drive car since the Cord 810/812 in 1937. For the inaugural edition of the Toronado, Oldsmobile devised the Unitized Power Package (UPP) - putting a Rocket V-8 and transmission into an engine bay no larger than one for a rear-wheel drive car. It was met with praise from the automotive press, winning Motor Trend's Car of the Year, and from the public with 40,963 units produced. This particular car comes to us dressed in a very nice driver-quality respray of its original color of Autumn Bronze. The overall style of the car is eye-catching, with flared wheel wells, a fastback-type rear roofline, and hidden "flip-up" headlights. It's sure easy to see why it was so popular! Up front beneath the hidden headlights are a bright horizontal V-shaped grille and chrome bumper that are flanked by extended fenders that protrude forward, covered at the bottom by the large bumper. The bumper has integrated turn signals and the grill features an Oldsmobile Club of America Badge. The side view of this Toronado shows off its stylish body lines, accented by gleaming wheel lip molding, rocker molding, window trim, chrome door handles, door edge molding, "Toronado" script fender badges, and very cool round dual chrome side mirrors. The long low angle of the rear window is accented by a series of vents beneath that continue the same angled line down the trunk lid to the rear. In the back is another chrome bumper with cut-outs for the large chrome exhaust tips. Above the bumper are taillights set in a border of brightwork that is showing some age with pitting. The gas fill is hidden behind the license plate so as not to disturb the curving body lines with an unsightly fuel door. This beautiful package sits atop a set of powder-coated 10-hole factory drum brake wheels with dog dish caps and beauty rings - all wrapped in a set of Nexen Tires.

Lift the long hood to find a very stock-looking engine bay. Sitting at the center is what we believe to be the original 425 Rocket V-8 and THM425 3-speed front wheel drive automatic transmission. When new, this engine was rated at 385hp and 475 lb-ft of torque - plenty of power to make this 4,500lb car get up and go. The light blue block is topped with same-color heads, valve covers, factory intake, water pump, and dual snorkel air cleaner. The air cleaner wears an Oldsmobile Toronado decal on top. You'll see that there is a Frigidaire A/C compressor hooked up, but at this time the clutch does not engage when the A/C is turned on in the car. Also present are power steering, power drum brakes with a single reservoir, and cast exhaust manifolds. We do have a receipt showing the transmission was rebuilt in 2021. Ride quality is as smooth as you would expect, courtesy of a front-end rebuild just a few years ago (we've got the receipts for that too).

Open the driver's door to see 4 courtesy lights all pop on and illuminate a gorgeous bronze interior. The long doors wear bronze vinyl door panels with bright trim and black carpeted bottoms. The completely flat floor is covered in good quality newer black carpet with double-wide red carpeted Oldsmobile logo floormats keeping it nice in both the front and rear. You'll find exceptionally nice bronze vinyl bench seats in both the front and rear, the latter featuring a speaker in the center of the back with a decorative grille cover. The seats look amazing and are equally as comfortable. The dash is a two-tiered affair with a metal top and lower vinyl top that does show some cracking above the gauge cluster area. A black bezel is home to a fuel gauge, temp warning light, speedometer, odometer, shift indicator, oil light, and amp gauge. The speedometer is a "slot machine-style" consisting of a stationary horizontal needle and a vertically rotating black drum on which the numerals are painted in white - it is really cool and unusual! The odometer reads 77,652 miles and the title confirms that to be actual. Next to the gauges on the right are a working analog clock and the original AM push-button transistor radio (inop.).
To the driver's left are controls for the heat, fan, and A/C (present, but inop.). The wipers and flip-up headlights both work as they should. Mounted under the dash are a set of oil pressure and temperature gauges from Autogage to keep a closer eye on things. The driver is treated to a highly stylized steering wheel with a working double delta-shaped horn ring that perfectly frames the cool speedometer on the dash. Ahead of the passenger is a glovebox and to its left is a his/hers double ashtray with a lighter. Overhead is a tight bronze vinyl headliner with a small dime-size hole above the rear seat. Back in the trunk, you'll find a spare tire with a jack, a plaid vinyl mat, and a fitted black rubber Oldsmobile logo trunk mat. In addition, we have the original window sticker and a folder of receipts for all of the work done to the car over the last 4 years.

If you're looking for a classic cruiser that exudes style and offers power paired with a smooth ride, this Toronado is going to get your heart beating faster! This Toronado is a very cool piece of automotive history that has been well cared for by its most recent owner. It's sure to be a hit at car shows and it gets smiles and thumbs-up wherever you take it! Give our staff a call today before someone else snatches this awesome ride up first!
