Fiat 508 C "Nuova Balilla" Trasformabile - 1939
Very rare car in excellent general conditions, enrollable in the 1000 Miglia, ideal for regularity races, bodywork and interior restored, 1089 cc engine, good mechanics, Italian document ready for export
The Fiat 508 Balilla is a car produced by FIAT in the 1930s, thanks to which mass motorization began in Italy. The project was implemented by several famous motoring figures of those years: Tranquillo Zerbi, Antonio Fessia, Bartolomeo Nebbia and Dante Giacosa who built a car with classy performance, but relatively low costs. The model was presented at the Milan Fair on 12 April 1932 on the occasion of the Motor Show and was characterized above all by the base price of only 10,800 lire. The last of the Balillas was the Fiat 508C, a completely new car which Fiat initially officially called Nuova Balilla 1100 (see the advertising posters of the time) but which motorists only ever called "1100". Presented in 1937[3] and remained in production until 1939, the year of launch of the actual Fiat 1100, it cost 19,500 lire and was produced in 57,000 examples in the Cabriolet, Sedan and Sunroof Sedan versions. The 4-door bodywork differed completely from the previous ones, as is evident from the photo alongside, as did the engine. The Fiat 108C is a 4-cylinder in-line petrol engine with overhead valves of 1089 cm³ (hence the name 1100) with 32 HP at 4,400 rpm, coupled to a 4-speed gearbox plus reverse, capable of pushing the car to 110 km/h. The front suspension was with independent wheels, with wishbones, coil springs and hydraulic oil-bath shock absorbers enclosed in a "case" while the rear had a rigid axle with leaf springs. In 1938 the Fiat 508L (Lungo) was created, a 508C with an extended wheelbase and 6 seats, two of which were folding folding seats behind the front seats[4]. Two versions were produced: a sedan completely similar to the classic model (including the opening of the doors), but with the third light at the bottom of the side; a taxi with a partition behind the driver - made up of sliding windows - and with a column on the sides, in correspondence with the partition, on which the doors were hinged which thus opened in the opposite direction compared to the 4 and 6 seater sedans.
