Vehicle Description
Cruisin Classics is very excited to present to you this stunning
1971 Plymouth GTX that just rolled into our showroom. This was the
last year for the GTX as a stand-alone model and only 2,942 were
produced, making this a pretty rare Mopar. This GTX proudly wears
all original sheet metal and is dressed in a high driver quality
respray of its original color - Lemon Twist (FY1). This GTX sports
a working factory-ordered Air Grabber hood (N96) with a matte black
bulge area around the intake and hood pins to keep it down. The
loop-type chrome front bumper makes an immediate impression and
it's accentuated by dual black chin spoilers beneath. The GTX badge
at the center of the grill is in excellent condition, as is the
Plymouth logo directly above the grille ahead of the hood. On top
of the fenders are turn signal indicators for the driver and on the
sides of the fenders are 440 decals above the side marker lights.
There is plenty of quality brightwork to catch the eye on this GTX,
with gleaming window trim, drip rail moldings, dual chrome side
mirrors, wheel lip molding, ribbed rocker molding, chrome door
handles, and big GTX badges behind the doors on the rear quarters.
This car still sports its originally ordered black accent stripes
(V7X) that follow the curves of the lower body lines from bumper to
bumper. The roof wears a black vinyl top (V1X) that is in
impeccable condition, and it really ties together all of the black
accents on the exterior. Black touches continue around the back
with a matte black gull-wing spoiler on the decklid. The decklid
also wears a bright red GTX decal on its lower right side. The rear
bumper has integrated taillights and it's just as brilliant as the
one up front. Sticking out from below the lower rear valence is a
set of correct slotted chrome exhaust tips (N42) that really add to
the cool look of the rear end. This whole amazing package has an
aggressive stance as it sits atop chrome 5-spoke Cragar SS wheels
wrapped in white letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A's.
Pull the pins and lift the hood to find a clean and stock-looking
engine bay with an original trim tag on the driver's side fender
well. At the center is a bright orange non-numbers matching 1972
440ci V-8 topped with orange valve covers, a '72 intake manifold, a
Carter AVS 4-barrel carburetor, and an orange air cleaner with a
"Super Commando 440" decal on it. Other highlights include Chrysler
electronic ignition, power steering, and power brakes (front disc
rear drum). Exhaust flows through factory HP manifolds and factory
dual exhaust before exiting those cool tips in the rear with a
heavenly rumble. The big V-8 is mated to a number matching Chrysler
727 Torqueflite 3-speed automatic transmission that sends power to
the wheels via an 8 " Chrysler rear end with 3.23:1 positraction
gears. Take a peak under the car to find an exceptionally clean
undercarriage, a newer gas tank, and stock extra heavy-duty
suspension components.
Open the driver's door to find a beautiful black interior with
woodgrain accents illuminated by a working dome and dash courtesy
lights. The formal black door panels feature woodgrain trim,
decorative medallions, and a driver's side mirror toggle. The
premium black vinyl bucket seats and center "buddy seat" are in
excellent condition with no rips or tears, and the same is true of
the rear bench. Woodgrain trim decorates the gauge bezel and the
passenger side of the crack-free black dash. The gauge cluster
includes a 150mph speedometer and gauges for gas, alt, oil
pressure, and temperature. The hidden 3-speed wipers function as
they should, as does the original Chrysler solid-state AM
push-button radio. To the left of the driver are simple controls
for the heat fan and a factory switch beneath the dash that
operates the Air Grabber hood. Under the upper lip of the dash is a
factory rear-speaker fader knob. Open the glovebox to find that it
too has a working courtesy light. Directly ahead of the driver is a
black 3-spoke OEM steering wheel with more woodgrain trim and a
working horn. Just behind the wheel on the column is the shifter
for the automatic transmission. Underfoot is a newer black carpet
with carpeted GTX logo floormats while overhead is a tight black
vinyl headliner. Back in the trunk, you'll find a vinyl mat, a full
spare tire, and a jack.
Whether you're looking for a classic Mopar or just a cool muscle
car, this GTX is going to get your heart pumping! This beauty is
one of the last great American muscle cars of its era, and a rare
one at that! There are two things you can count on when you get
behind the wheel of this GTX - you're going to have a smile on your
face and you're going to turn heads everywhere you go!
