2006 PROMOTION
40 years after the success of the original “Rent-a-Racer” promotion, and with a new Shelby available in dealerships, the time seemed right to revive it. Again, Hertz dealers received a Shelby GT with distinctive black-and-gold Le Mans striping. Special GT-H badging was located on the front fenders, and each car had a numbered dash plate signed by Carroll Shelby.
Under the hood, the Shelby GT-H featured a Ford Racing performance pack that included a cold air intake, X pipe cat-back muffler kit and a performance calibration, boosting the Shelby GT’s already impressive output an extra 25 horsepower. Other upgrades included a unique front fascia, side scoops, painted calipers, and 17” performance tires. .

The Shelby GT-H used an automatic transmission and a 4.6 liter Ford engine and the Ford Racing Performance FR1 Power Pack to add 25 horsepower and 10 ft/lb of torque to the regular Mustang engine. The FR1 Power pack consisted of a 90mm cold air kit, muffler package, a new X-pipe and Ford Racing “GTA” axle-back mufflers. The Ford Shelby GT-H also was provided with the Ford Racing Handling Pack (FR3) consisting of specially tuned dampers, lowering springs, sway bars, strut tower brace and a Ford Racing 3.55:1 ratio rear axle assembly.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Shelby GT350H production run, 500 cars were built and only sold to Hertz.
