Very rare and original car, excellent general condition, original colour, excellently preserved interior, original 110.000 series engine, excellent mechanics, USA provenance, being registered in Italy as a vehicle of historical interest

The Fiat 500 (Italian: Cinquecento) is an economy / city car that was manufactured and marketed by Fiat Automobiles from 1957 until 1975. It was sold as a two-door semi-convertible or saloon car and as a three-door panel van or estate car. Launched as the Nuova (new) 500 in July 1957, as a successor to the 500 "Topolino", it was an inexpensive and practical small car. Measuring 2.97 metres (9 feet 9 inches) long, and originally powered by a rear-mounted 479 cc two-cylinder, air-cooled engine, the 500 was 24.5 centimetres (9.6 inches) smaller than Fiat's 600, launched two years earlier, and is considered one of the first purpose-designed city cars. In 1959, Dante Giacosa received a Compasso d'Oro industrial design prize for the Fiat 500. This marked the first time a Compasso d’Oro was awarded to an automotive manufacturer. From December 1957 the 500s were also imported into the United States by sea with the Italterra, arousing much curiosity and strong sympathy among the American public, due to their small dimensions and the noise of the small air-cooled twin-cylinder engine. Compared to the versions intended for the domestic and more generally European market, the New 500 Normale, Sport, D and Jolly exported to the United States had large front lights, which gave their noses a nice frog-like look, which in reality served to respect the The minimum headlight height required by traffic laws in the USA. Another feature of American lighthouses was the so-called "sealed beam" construction, i.e. the classic removable bulb that we are used to in Europe, but with the body of the lighthouse itself, obviously of the sealed type, which acted as a bulb with the filament directly embedded in the parable. The rear lights also changed, which were initially equipped with a support to house the English Lucas lights approved for the USA, then Italian lights specially built and approved. The direction indicators were also different and larger. The front ones, round and arranged above the internal ventilation grilles, were also made according to American standards, however a few years later they also appeared on the Italian models with a very similar design, but in a different position. In addition to the lights, the "American type" Fiat 500s had other modifications requested by American users, such as the scale of the speedometer-odometer in miles, the writing of the warning lights in English and the bumpers of larger dimensions and equipped with overriders, to withstand small collisions, given that even back then motorists from overseas were in the habit of "pushing" maneuvering in car parks. However, interest soon waned and imports ceased in 1961.
