FIAT 1100 E Musone – 1952

The Fiat 1100 is a car produced by the FIAT car manufacturer from 1939 to 1969.
The progenitor of all the "1100" was the Fiat 508C "Nuova Balilla 1100", released in June 1937, whose stylistic evolution called 1100 A and presented at the end of 1939, and immediately popularly renamed "musone", was the first car of the Turin brand to boast the name Fiat 1100. The nickname "musone" derived from the imposing windbreak grille (also in use on the Fiat 2800) which differentiated it externally from the first version, later also defined as "musetto" for retroformation of the term.
Immediately after the war (September 1948), the 1100 A, slightly modified, took on the designation of 1100 B, then, at the end of the summer of 1949, the 1100 E was released, externally characterized by the trunk compartment which contained the spare wheel (which in models A and B it was visible externally) and internally by the gear shift control on the steering wheel (also equipped with a second synchronized speed).
The 1100 B and the subsequent Es, thanks also to the large cockpit, had considerable success; furthermore, as the chassis was still separable from the body, it was chosen by the countless body shops that produced custom-built cars, such as Ghia, Pininfarina, Frua, Zagato, just to name the most famous. But Fiat also supplied the chassis of the lorry/van version, identical but longer, and the bodybuilders created taxis and ambulances on this chassis. Previously, during the war, a "mobile office" model had already been produced. The elongated frames were marked with the letter L placed after that of the model (therefore AL, BL or EL), while the possible suffix R (ALR, BLR, ELR) indicated a reinforced frame for applications requiring greater robustness.
