Vehicle Description
1949 Mercury Convertible
We've all seen the iconic '49 Mercury lead sleds, but we're
confident you've never come across one as extraordinary as this.
This car has the perfect look. Powered by a big block V8, equipped
with a street-worthy chassis, and featuring all the modern creature
comforts, this rare custom build is not just for show-it's built to
be driven. Take a closer look!
The white interior abandons tradition in favor of state-of-the-art
flair, starting with a set of swivel bucket seats from a '60s
Chrysler. The beautifully finished dash features a lot of custom
stainless steel, with motorized doors for all the controls, making
everything disappear when you turn off the key. Turn it on, and
you're greeted by Dakota Digital gauges, an AM/FM/CD stereo up
high, and the controls for the Vintage Air A/C system in the
center. A custom center console, inspired by an early '60s
Thunderbird unit, houses a horseshoe shifter and the power window
controls. The steering wheel is completely unique to this car.
Additional features include a tilt column, remote door openers, and
a set of Air Ride controls cleverly hidden in the former ashtray in
the console.
Under the hood is a 454 cubic inch Chevrolet V8. It's not radical,
but it's more than enough to make this custom feel exhilaratingly
fast. The engine bay is a work of art, featuring a lot of chrome,
custom plumbing, and a lightly modified air cleaner from a mid-50s
Cadillac. Finned valve covers, custom brushed aluminum tank work,
and hand-fabricated inner panels give it an exceptionally clean
look. The big block is enhanced by an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor, powder-coated exhaust manifolds, and a custom dual
exhaust system with glasspack style mufflers for that classic
sound.
The chassis boasts power steering and front disc brakes, thanks to
a Nova subframe transplant, while the rear end features a Mustang
8.8 hanging on trailing arms and leaf springs. In between, you'll
find a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission, making it an
effortless cruiser at any speed. The Air Ride suspension allows you
to adjust the height to your preference, and it sits on 215/70/15
whitewall radials for that perfect vintage look.
This 1949 Mercury is more than just a car; it's a statement piece.
Whether you're a classic car enthusiast, a collector, or someone
who appreciates the art of automotive design, this led sled will
not disappoint.
