locate a rare 1996 Chevrolet Impala Callaway Supernatural. The
Callaway SS integrated the 400 bhp/383 CID Supernatural engine used
in Callaway Corvettes and Camaros with the impressive Chevrolet
Impala SS. The Callaway SS also included suspension, braking,
wheel, and tire enhancements, creating a world-class touring sedan
with the performance and driving satisfaction of a strong V8
engine. A new 1996 Impala SS was priced at around $24,000. The cost
of the Callaway Supernatural package was a whopping $25,000
additional, making this a $50,000 car when new!
Finished in Jet Black with gray leather bucket seats, this
well-cared-for Impala has been carefully driven less than 53,000
miles since it was new. The beautiful original interior features an
impressive McIntosh sound system that sounded amazing and was
extremely high-end and expensive when new. Other features include a
pillar-mounted volt meter and oil pressure gauges, a Callaway
Supernatural dash Badge, and a cool sticker on the gauge cluster
that reads "Close all windows above 140 MPH".
These are fast cars, but the previous owner of this Impala wanted
even more power. In 2001, the car was returned to Callaway for
enhancements, including a 450-horsepower LT1 engine, upgraded sway
bars, Brembo brakes, and a set of premium Forgeline wheels. An
invoice from Callaway for over $16,500 comes with the car,
documenting the work.
Additionally, a remanufactured Tremec T56 transmission was fitted
with a Viper 3-4 shift upgrade, and a Torsen 8.5-inch ten bolt rear
end with 3.73 rear gears was installed in 2005 by BNT Performance
in Wilmington, NC. These cars were never available with a manual
transmission from Chevrolet, making this Impala SS even more
special. A huge aluminum radiator with custom HD relays and a fan
setup keeps the powerful engine cool.
