Vehicle Description
Beginning in 1949, the first production run of Porsche 356's are
made, and a true legend was born, both in racing innovations and in
precision engineering. The gorgeous shape of these magnificent cars
are loved by all, and have celebrated a lengthy production history
being built until 1965. Available in both Coupe and Cabriolet
forms, nearly 80,000 units were made over this 16-year period with
estimates suggesting that about half of them still survive
today.
The final iteration of the 356 came as the C-model, in a T6 body
configuration showcasing twin rear engine grills, more squared off
front hood for larger trunk access, curved windshield, 4-wheel disc
brakes, wider 4.5" wheels, revised steering linkage, and improved
suspension. These magnificent examples were only produced for two
years before transition into the 911-era Porsche remains known for
today. Of the approximately 12,000 356C's produced, it is estimated
less than 1,500 were Reutter Cabriolets making them exceptional
collection pieces, as well as the most refined of owner-driven 356
convertible models one can own today!
We are very proud to present this 1964 Porsche 356C Reutter
Cabriolet professionally refinished in Stone Grey (originally Light
Ivory) over correct Fawn Leather interior with a Black cloth
convertible top. This exceptional example has been brilliantly
restored to a stunning, show-worthy condition! It retains it
numbers matching 1600cc Horizontal 4-cylinder engine producing 75
horsepower mated to its factory issued 4-speed ZF transaxle.
Features include passenger visor mirror, outside rearview mirror,
Porsche radio delete plate (original Blaupunkt AM/FM radio
included), Sekurit window glass, Koni Classic shocks, Hella fog
lamps, and painted steel wheels with chrome center caps. The tires
are traditional Michelin XZX radials measuring 165SR15.
This stunning 356C Cabriolet was formerly owned by a talented
architect since 2013 where it was restored to a high degree and
curated amongst a small collection of Porsches that also included a
1959 356B Super Coupe and 1960 356 Super Roadster. This one was
color-matched to his Coupe in Stone Grey, a color he enjoyed more
than the traditional white many of these cars were ordered in. It
was completely stripped prior to the repaint completed between
2013-2015 over an 18-month total restoration period. During this
renovation, the car received a complete 6-volt wiring harness
through YnZ Wiring, gauges rebuilt by Palo Alto Speedometer, and
all new leather interior with oatmeal carpeting completed by
Autobahn based in National City, CA. A full mechanical overhaul to
the suspension and braking systems would be completed. Having
always been a faithful driver, the original engine was rebuilt with
a 1720cc kit along with normal fluid & gasket service, cosmetic
restoration to the tins & brightwork, and Zenith carburetors
overhauled. Recent compression results support psi readings of
115-125 across all cylinders. The transaxle was fully inspected and
serviced as needed prior to going back into the vehicle with a new
clutch and fitted with a correct style exhaust system. Every single
nut and bolt were touched during this total restoration with all
chrome and brightwork were re-plated for an excellent, show quality
presentation. He would enjoy the car for many years before selling
it on finding its way to a local St. Louis collection in 2022.
It continues to run and drive with excellent power and smooth
synchronized gearbox shifts. The 4-wheel disc brakes add a high
degree of stopping confidence, while steering remains tight and
agile for spirited driving in any condition. All features are
functional with exception to the dash clock. It will come complete
with a matching spare tire dated 11/64, service jack, cloth
convertible top boot cover, copy of Porsche COA, some recent
service receipts, and Blaupunkt AM/FM radio in a box. Knowledgeable
enthusiasts should act quickly; original Porsche Cabriolets like
this nice do not come along very often! Savvy international
investors have made a strong impact on the number of collectible
cars still available on US soil. As record numbers of these cars
leave our shores, demand for them will only increase, buy now to
ensure the highest investment potential!
