Vehicle Description
2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Collector Edition Convertible
"You understand excitement. You understand what makes for a genuine
legend. You understand that "special" should really mean "special."
All of this is clear to us because of your decision to obtain one
of the rarest Firebirds ever - the 2002 Collector Edition Trans
Am." - from the letter every Collector Edition owner received from
GM, which will accompany this car.
For consignment, a 2002 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Collector's
Edition convertible with a title verified 12,535 actual miles. This
is a garage kept, fair weather driven, one owner car and 1 of 2,390
produced, 1 of 554 convertibles, 1 of 995 with a manual
transmission. They all have Ram Air and the WS6 package. Truly a
unique opportunity to join a very exclusive group.
Exterior
Making use of a curvaceous surface, this car appears to be moving
when standing still. From its shapely integrated bumper with fog
lights, turn signals and air intakes, it seamlessly moves into the
hood. Up here we are greeted with more air intakes, bulbous hidden
headlights and a dual cowl hood scoop complete with dual screaming
chickens and licking flames heading towards the windshield in
multiple shades of gray. More air intakes, good gaps and some
sweeping graphics are seen here. The large black B pillar supports
a swept back curved rear window, and this makes its way under an
integrated tail spoiler. More round design on the rear honeycomb
tail lights, and another curved integrated bumper and we have a
thing of undulating collector yellow beauty. The canvas top and its
glass rear window are in excellent condition. Imperfections include
substantial bottom scrapes on the rocker panel, multiple chin
scrapes and a crack in the thermoplastic. There are also light but
numerous scuffs on the nose piece and some flex cracking in the
paint. There are two sizable dings in the body and some minor
delamination on the silver rim of the black wheels.
Interior
We venture inside to a world of more curved surfaces in the form of
Ebony leather covered power bucket seats up front and a dual bucket
setup in the rear. All this leather is in good condition with a
minor scuff on the plastic shell. The buckets flank a sweeping
forward black console which houses a large glovebox/armrest and the
Hurst shifter. The undulating dash in black houses the instrument
panel, a banging Delco AM/FM/12 Disc CD player, (trunk mounted),
with equalizer and 10 Monsoon speakers strategically placed to rock
your world. This radio can be controlled by the steering wheel so
you can continue your cruise while changing the tunes. Nice black
carpet covers the floors.
Drivetrain
With Ram Air and a performance handling package, this healthy mill
can take you down the road at exciting speed. Rated at 5.7 liters,
this LS1 with electronic fuel injection, and a T56 6-speed manual
transmission is throwing power back to a RPO coded GU6 3.42 posi
rear axle will have you up to speed in no time.
Undercarriage
Save for some usual surface rust on uncoated suspension parts, it
could be considered clean driver quality underneath, with great
structural integrity, super clean floor pans, and a straight frame.
A low restriction exhaust, original equipment mufflers, independent
front and torque arm rear suspension, and power disc brakes all
around are noted down below.
Drive-Ability
Turning the key will ignite the candles immediately. This car has
plenty of power, rides very nicely, and has an ergonomically
comfortable interior setup for the driver. A flip of the traction
control switch and you get a whole different ride. Great airflow
without the glass t-top panels installed. While Classic Auto Mall
represents that these functions were working at the time of our
test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at
the time of your purchase.
"Firebird: It's the ultimate performance machine from Pontiac
that's made grown men drool and little kids dream for 35 years. At
the end of the 2002 model year, Firebird production will cease.
There are very few "last chances" in life. Don't blow this one.
This from the promotional material for the car, which will
accompany it. GM was quite proud of the Firebird run and of this
car, and for good reason. We're proud to represent this rare car
that so many have dreamed about.
