Vehicle Description
1982 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
Bowling Green was abuzz as plans were already rolling out for the
next generation of America's sports car. Tooling changes at the
plant for the C4 required Chevy to take a year off from producing
the Corvette which explains why there is no 1983 model. 25,407 1982
Corvettes were built, including some Collector Editions to
represent the end of the line for the C3.
For consignment, a 1982 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title
verified 15,853 actual miles. If you've ever dreamed of owning a
new C3, this is as close an opportunity as you might get. It's a
true time capsule in white on red configuration that our consignor
drives on frequent 100+ mile trips without issue.
Exterior
Our Bowling Green baby is bathed in Classic White and this one is
adorned with red pinstriping that accentuates the high fender hips
and is also found around the crossed flags on front and the
Corvette emblem on back. The sleek front flows to a muscular back
with wide shoulder lines over the rear wheels and a flowing,
integrated rear wing. A semi dome shaped rear window creates a
greenhouse effect and good visibility and when the body colored
T-tops are stowed, it helps provide an open road, sunny driving
experience. The body contours around fender vents on the front
quarter panels and they're topped with Crossfire injection emblems.
Even if we didn't know what that meant, it just sounds so darn
cool! Flush door handles on the rising shoulder line of the car are
iconic on this car and the equally as shiny metal frame of the
T-top is in great condition. 15-inch Chevrolet Rally wheels are
impeccable and carry 255/60R15 tires with a late 2021 date code.
Imperfections are limited to two scratches on the fascia, one on
the side edge and one on the nose.
Interior
Red vinyl over red carpeted lowers make up the door panels and they
are showroom fresh and lead to sills that are protected by Corvette
branded canvas covers to protect the metal plate. The deep bucket
seats in red leather show almost no use and plump cushions form the
supportive sides on the two part seats. A leather wrapped red
steering wheel is in fine condition and the dash is dust free and
shines with a satin finish that usually fades by now and the center
gauge cluster is just as crisp. In front of the passenger, the red
molded dash looks like it just rolled out of Kentucky. The shifter
and center console look good and lack the wear normally found in
this area. Plush red carpet is protected by fitted plastic tubs and
the carpet in the cargo area is also blocked from the sun with a
fitted canvas mat.
Drivetrain
The reverse hood opens to reveal the super clean and correct 350ci
V8, fuel injected and rated at 200 horsepower. It is set into
motion via the correct 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission which
sends the spinning drive shaft to the rear axle where it finds 2.87
gears with limited slip. Power disc brakes are supplied at each
wheel.
Undercarriage
The underside is overall very clean with a touch of typical surface
rust in spots and some extra grease on the steering knuckle, but no
oil drips or invasive rust anywhere. The dual exhaust enters a cat,
then splits off to meet stock style mufflers before exiting rather
discreetly under the rear bumper cover. Coil springs are up front
for suspension and the rear is Corvette's complex system of a frame
mounted differential, tubular axle drive shafts, transverse strut
rods, torque control arms, and transverse leaf springs.
Drive-Ability
What's not to love about a garage kept time capsule of a final year
C3? The grippy seats lock you in and the steering wheel and seating
position will lull you right into race mode. But we're going slow
because we just want to make sure that the car that looks one year
old performs like it's one year old, and we're not disappointed
save for the air conditioning blowing warm. The engine sounds and
runs great, the handling is Corvette good, and acceleration is more
than adequate. Everything functions as it should and it's 1982 all
over again and we're stoked to represent this "young" car. While
Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at
the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions
will be working at the time of your purchase.
This car presents a great opportunity to get into a low mileage C3
that is almost museum quality. Corvettes are one of those cars
where one is never enough, and the varied generations provide
opportunities to collect different iterations of the same model. If
you're in the market for a clean '82, or maybe stumbled on this
listing by chance, be sure to check this one out!
