The Buick Century was a model name dedicated to Buick's upscale
full size vehicles. They were produced from many years but there
were often gaps in their release. The 1st generation spanned from
1936 to 1941, the second generation from 1954 to 1958 and then
subsequent generations from 1973 onwards to 2005. When they
introduced the name in 1954 the idea was to take the smaller,
lighter Buick Special body and combine it with the most powerful
motor they had at the time. The intent was to introduce a luxurious
but high performance Buick. This Buick Century belongs to that
second generation and is a really neat car. The body is solid and
wears that classic 50's Blue and White color combination that has
been redone by the current owner. This was an era of lots of chrome
and these Buicks certainly weren't lacking any with their large
bumpers, swooping side trim and of course those classy 4 portholes
on the front fenders. All of the paint and bright work on this car
have a nice shine throughout. The glass is all in good condition
throughout and dropping the side windows allows plenty of breeze
with that open hardtop roofline. Under all four corners the car
rides on a set of its original wheels and hubcaps with new thin
white wall tires.
Powering the car is Buick's largest offering at the time the 322 ci
5.3L "Fireball" OHV V8 motor. It has been dressed up with nice
finned valve covers, a finned air cleaner, and Holley 4 barrel
carburetor. The engine was resealed and runs well. Paired up with
the motor is a 2 speed Dynaflow automatic transmission that shifts
smoothly and has been fully rebuilt. The car has factory power
steering and the brakes/suspension are stock and working
properly.
The interior is complete in White upholstery and has a split bench
seat with a bench in rear. It is in good shape as is the carpet
which is done in Blue. It has been redone in the past prior to the
current owner. The dash is nicely painted and topped off with all
of its stock components. These cars had a lot of cool, almost
airplane like, control levers for things like the heater/defroster
and all of that is still in place. All of the original gauges are
there and the odometer shows 52,777 miles on the odometer. The
original 4 spoke steering wheel looks good and has the chrome Buick
horn ring. The trunk allows a ton of additional storage and houses
an original spare.
This cool classic Buick has a lot of style and is ready for a new
garage to call home.
Take it home for $37,500.00!
