Fresh body off frame custom build by Legendary Customs. Rare
premium Cameo that was custom from the factory. Only 1,405 made!
Although it has been completely modernized with an updated
driveline it still retains it's amazing vintage appeal.
What is a Cameo? Well back then trucks were strictly looked at as
work horses. The Cameo was literally the first luxury truck, a
trend that is stronger than ever today. A GM designer sketched up a
real decked out version and the execs loved it knowing it would
appeal to a "well off" buyer. Upgrades included a custom smooth
side bed made from a relatively new product called fiberglass. It
had a very stylish tailend, upgraded hubcaps, interior appointments
and much more. 1958 was the lowest production year.
EXTERIOR: New $12,000 metal cab by Premier Street Rods. The gaudy
emblems were removed from the hood and fenders for a clean look.
All clean, straight rust free metal. The original bed is what
really makes a Cameo special. Fiberglass panels made at the same
plant that made the Corvettes give it a smooth look that is flush
with the cab. Painted in a tri coat white pearl with red accents.
It is beautiful with a smooth glossy finish. In back it has '54 Bel
Air taillights and a unique tailgate. The front is decorated in a
lot of glistening chrome, first year for quad headlights. The
moldings down the bed give space for a nice red accent. The rear
bumper is pulled into the body. All the glass is brand new and even
the seals and fuzzy strips were replaced. It has even has the big
wrap around back window as well. Adding to the appeal is a great
lowered stance that sits pretty on Ridler 5 spoke chrome wheels
wrapped in size 225/55R18 GoodYear performance tires.
INTERIOR: Keeping its original flavor it is refinished red and
white like the original. The seat and door panels were
reupholstered like original. The Cameo also includes carpet and
visors; this one is carpeted behind the seat too. All the interior
metal was painted glossy. Updated digital gauges. A Bluetooth retro
stereo fits in the factory hole and has speakers molded into the
kick panels. Vintage Air cleverly incorporated electric climate
controls into the original style control panel. Vents are neatly
installed under the dash. The restored original wheel is on a tilt
column. A custom console was made with handy cup holders.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Look what we have here! A Blueprint crate LS
6.2L motor making 544 hp and 514 lbs of torque, Dyno sheet
included! It has aluminum heads, custom intake manifold and air
intake tube. It uses a set of long tube stainless headers. It has a
stand alone wiring harness for engine and trans. The front of the
motor has a polished CVF runner system with billet brackets and
pulleys with a serpentine belt, a mini polished a/c compressor,
polished alternator and power steering. It runs cool with a big,
polished radiator with a polished shroud and overflow bottle and an
electric fan pulls the air through. The engine bay is clutter free
and painted gloss white. It has a power brake system on the
firewall and new hinges.
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The unique tailgate has the latches hidden on
the inside and uses a retractable cable system. Inside is pristine
metal with high gloss red paint. The floor is refinished oak with
polished stainless strips and a flush mount fuel filler.
UNDERSIDE: Upfront it has a new JW Rod Gararge independent
suspension system with tubular control arms, Viking coilover
adjustable gas shocks, rack & pinion steering. In back is a 4 link
with tubular control arms and Viking coilover adjustable gas
shocks. All polished stainless dual exhaust with Magnaflow muffler
and turn down tips. It has disc brakes at all 4 wheels. Custom fuel
tank by Tanks with internal fuel pump. Looking up at the motor it
is spotless and has a high torque starter. It has a JEGS 4L60E
electric overdrive automatic trans. Heavy duty Ford 9 inch rear
end. The floors are immaculate metal painted in a durable chip
guard. Bottom of the oak slats are refinished. The frame was
stripped, and powder coated. Everything is new under here down to
the nuts and bolts.
SERVICE: We inspected and serviced the truck. We repaired turn
signals, straighten the carpet, adjusted steering wheel, installed
horns, repaired dash lights, fixed brake light, adjusted passenger
window, adjusted door striker, and tightened the mirror.
CONCLUSION: This isn't just another custom truck, it's a Cameo! Not
many people will have that bragging right, especially a 1958. Fresh
build by a high-end shop and it has all the features you want
including that LS motor!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
