Vehicle Description
This 1945 Willys MB is in truly excellent condition. The quality of
the 'frame off' restoration is self-evident; and in our opinion
this is likely one of the finest WW2 jeeps to ever be offered for
sale in North America. That said, it is not an overpriced trailer
queen, a concours winning museum piece with a $100,000.00 price
tag, a jeep too precious to ever be driven. Nope, simply put, it is
a fantastic Willys MB, sensibly priced: turn-key ready and ready to
be enjoyed. A genuine benchmark tribute to honor the 80th
anniversary of the D-Day landings of June 1944. The jeep has
undergone a recent in-depth 'frame off' restoration. The frame has
been stripped, blasted, inspected and painted in the correct shade
of olive drab green. Only at this stage was the rest of the vehicle
assembled around it. But all the hard work paid off, for without
any doubt, the underside of this Willys MB looks as stunning as the
top side. The MB's 134ci 'Go Devil' inline-four engine, and its
mated T84 transmission have both been rebuilt. The attention to
detail of this mechanical work is stupendous: the restored engine
bay, the engine itself and its attached ancillaries represent
nothing less than automotive artwork. Stunning in the extreme. The
jeep's wiring harness is a new high-quality (fabric covered) loom,
a faithful reproduction of the original, with each wire carrying
the period correct tracer markings. The voltage regulator is a new,
period correct high-quality reproduction. The fuel lines are new.
The fuel pump is new. The ignition components are new. The six-volt
battery is new. The engine block and head are painted in correct
olive drab green. The engine fires-up effortlessly, idles with the
purrs of a sleeping kitten, and pulls strong when ordered to
perform. The MB has retained its extremely valuable six-volt
electronic layout. No WW2 jeep ever left the factory equipped with
twelve-volt electronics; and, in our opinion, any truly authentic
WW2 jeep restoration must carry a six-volt system, a point of vital
importance. The jeep is equipped with five brand new 'split rim'
combat wheels. All five 6x16 'military' . tires are in 'as new'
condition. These correct combat wheels and tires are essential to
achieve that rare, truly authentic look; these endowing the jeep
with a very purposeful stance. The suspension is robust, the
steering responsive. The jeep's bodywork, its frame, tub, fenders,
windshield surround, hood etc. are all in impeccable condition.
There is no rust, anywhere, and everything has been carefully
painted in the correct (#33070) shade of WW2 olive drab green. The
jeep comes with four period correct cargo packs, mounted on its
flanks. These cargo packs really add to the jeep's appearance as a
true working warhorse. The rear of the Willys is equipped with an
excellent condition fuel 'jerrycan', just as should be fitted to a
1945 jeep. There is also a custom made mounting and replica radio
mast. This mast carries an authentic period correct forty-eight
star US flag (of the war years), along with the famed Normandy
landings insignia of the 101st Airborne, E Company: the legendary
Band of Brothers. These pennants look stunning, a more fitting
tribute we cannot envision. The MB comes complete with the iconic
end-whipped tow rope, this finishing piece sits wrapped in loose
coils around the front bumper, just as it should be. The jeep also
features a highly desirable Steve Matchett custom made (fully
functional) tool storage box, one designed to fit flawlessly
between the front bumper and the MB's iconic grille. Handmade to a
perfect 'Hollywood movie prop' quality, this bespoke timber box has
been impressively stencilled in white lettering; with this
lettering and its underlying olive paint meticulously 'aged' to
produce a stunning patina finish. CALL 704.305.5373 FOR MORE
