Vehicle Description
1973 Plymouth Duster 340 - Recent Restoration - 340ci V8 -
Automatic Transmission - Red With Black Decals - Black Interior
With Bucket Seats - Original Build Sheet Garage Kept Motors is very
excited to feature this beautiful 1973 Plymouth Duster. By the time
this car was released in 1973, the muscle car era was coming to a
smoldering end. Federal safety regulations, an oil embargo, and
rising insurance rates had collared the manufacturers and large
cubic inch/high-powered street-legal race cars were no longer
rolling off the assembly lines in Detroit. The car that started it
all, the Pontiac GTO was now based on a long heavy colonnade body
style and in 1974 would be just an option on the X-body platform.
One of the best buys for performance fans still offered was the
affordable Plymouth Duster. Essentially a carryover from the 1972
model the 1973 Duster was nearly identical to the previous year. A
few careful checks of the right boxes on the dealer order form
would have an affordable street performance car that with a few
simple modifications could become a street terror! The Duster came
stock with an inline 6 cylinder but a 340 V8 with 8.5:1 compression
and 4bbl carburetor could be ordered as an option along with a
performance rear end which is really all you needed to wake these
lightweight grocery getters, get up and go. However ambitious
performance fans could make Day Two upgrades and add a Mopar Racing
Purple Shaft camshaft, an aftermarket aluminum intake and a set of
headers, and some light cylinder headwork done and have a real
muscle car on their hands. This Duster was recently restored to its
original factory-delivered state. This car is stunning with red
paint and a black interior. The finish has been well applied over
professionally executed bodywork and the finish was prepped and
polished to a high gloss luster. The factory-correct black 340
stripe kit has been accurately applied. This car features a dual
snorkel fiberglass hood scoop which was a common upgrade on the
Dusters, as this hood was only offered on Demons from the factory.
The factory bumpers show only some light polish scratching, and the
stainless-steel trim is in an equal condition requiring only some
light buffing restoration and still shining brightly. Inside the
Duster's black interior has been nicely restored with new seat
upholstery, carpet, rear package shelf, front and rear door panels,
and headliner. The trunk has been restored and detailed with a new
reproduction vinyl floor mat and a new taillight harness. The dash
features factory-simulated wood grain surrounding a factory gauge
package with a voltmeter and temperature gauge. The factory radio
is missing; however, the sale of the car includes a factory-correct
AM radio and bezel. Between the factory bucket seats sits a floor
shifter and console. The simulated wood trim theme continues on to
the console and the chrome trim presents with some light pitting
and patina. Under the hood is well restored looking nearly showroom
fresh with the correct decals coatings applied during the
restoration. The otherwise stock 340 V8 which nets 240 HP from the
factory features a fresh set of Accel spark plug wires and a
high-flow aluminum water pump. A new factory engine and front light
harness were added during the restoration process. Power is
transformed through a 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.
Underneath the underbody and chassis are well detailed and
exhibited it was completely disassembled painted and assembled with
new or restored parts. The exhaust was upgraded to a 2.5 Pypes
Performance X-pipe dual exhaust system with Pypes Violator
mufflers. This Duster features power front disc brakes with rear
drums and rolls on a set of American Racing 14'Torque Thrust Alloy
wheels wrapped with BF Goodrich Radial T/A raised white letter
tires. This is a fantastic car with a fantastic rumble out of the
exhaust that will look and sound sharp as it idles into your local
cruis
