In 2011, thirteen years after production for the world-renowned F1 supercar concluded, McLaren announced a return to street car production with the MP4-12C. With a name and many technologies derived from their Formula 1 racecars, the MP4-12C quickly earned its place in enthusiasts' garages. Unlike the F1, which was designed by Gordon Murray as "the ultimate road-going motorcar" with cost being of little object, the MP4-12C was positioned both in price and performance to take on period supercars from Ferrari and Lamborghini.
A carbon fiber "MonoCell" chassis and a unique hydraulic suspension without anti-roll bars provides the basis for what has since become an extensive array of McLaren supercars. Powering the car is a twin-turbocharged 3.8L V8 producing 592hp (later increased to 616hp) which is controlled by a seven-speed "Seamless Shift" dual-clutch automatic, which allows for a top speed over 200mph. For 2012, a "Spider" (convertible) variant was released with a power-folding hardtop. A fairly minimal weight penalty versus the coupe ensures performance is nearly the same, and the high-strength chassis prevents excessive flex. Any McLaren offers a tremendous experience, and the MP4-12C is no exception.
Displayed in eye-catching Volcano Red over Harissa Red/Carbon Black leather, this 2014 McLaren MP4-12C Spider was just released from the collection of a former CEO of a Fortune 500 company. On top of the original base price of $265,750, this magnificent McLaren comes equipped with over $64,000 in options including carbon fiber interior/exterior trim, diamond-cut wheels, and an upgraded IRIS infotainment system with Meridian surround sound. This superlative MP4-12C has been carefully kept here in St. Louis by a retired Fortune 500 company CEO and driven only sparingly. Because of its sensational specification and exceptionally low miles, we believe this McLaren deserves a place in the collection of the most demanding collector, investor, or enthusiast who aspires to own one of the very best!
