Chrysler had incorporated DeSoto under its marketing and design
team and introduced several new engineering features including the
383 CID V8 being introduced as the top-of-the-line engine providing
a 350HP rating in the Adventurer series. The front headlights were
set in hooded front fenders like the Chrysler although the grille
and bumper arrangements remained different. The 'Panoramic' rear
window was available on the Firedome Sportsman models. Inside all
new 'Fashion Vogue' interior colors and fabrics were introduced
along with a restyled instrument panel. Topping off the dashboard
was an instrument panel safety cushion which came standard on the
Firedome's and Fireflite's and optional on the other models. Gauges
were grouped in front of the driver with a horizontally mounted
'Safety Color Accuribbon' speedometer that changed colors as the
speed increased. It was Green at 30mph, White at 30-50mph and Red
when over 50mph! This was to be the very last year for the
Firesweep and Firedome series and all convertibles and station
wagons, Sportsman hardtops and high performance 4 BBL Adventurer's.
This was the last year too for body-on-frame construction before
being replaced by unibody for the end-of-the-line models in 1960.
The 383/305HP V8 engine is extremely strong and powerful and sounds
absolutely magnificent! This particular car also drives absolutely
magnificently - it must really be seen and driven to be fully
appreciated - a truly remarkable daily driver that will give any
modern day car a run for it's money! This is a rare opportunity to
own a great daily driving example of a rare and absolutely
beautiful and quite exceptional unrestored survivor 1959 DeSoto
Firedome 4 door sedan which is a perfect car for the DeSoto
enthusiast who would appreciate it's rare authentic originality or
simply a great daily driving and turn-key ready example of one very
fine classic 1950's American classic car for any classic American
classic car collector!
