For Sale: 1932 Ford Roadster in Monterey, California

Vehicle Description

Supercharged Flathead-Powered ’32 Ford Roadster Highboy 5-Speed

This ’32 Ford roadster was built under prior ownership utilizing a reproduction fiberglass body and a boxed steel frame. Power is provided by a supercharged flathead Ford V8 mated to a five-speed manual transmission and a Currie 9” rear end, and additional equipment includes front disc brakes, a dropped front axle, American Racing 14” and 15” wheels, rear coilovers, a Rootlieb steel hood, and a black BopTop removable soft top. The interior is outfitted with a gray black bench seat, a tilting steering column, lap seatbelts, and Stewart-Warner instrumentation. Acquired by the current owner in 2019, this Deuce highboy is now offered on dealer consignment with build documents, recent service records, and a California title.

The fiberglass body is from Wescott’s Auto of Demascus, Oregon, and it is mounted to a boxed steel frame said to be sourced from So-Cal Speed Shop. The car is finished in metallic gray with black and orange pinstriping and features a 2”-chopped windshield, a Sid Chavers BopTop removable soft top, a Rootlieb louvered steel hood with removable side panels, and SoCal Speed Shop H4 headlights with chrome buckets and integrated turn signals.

American Racing 14” front and 15” rear wheels are mounted with 185/70 General Altimax RT45 and 265/75 General Grabber HTS tires, respectively. The suspension features a front drop axle with hairpin radius rods along with a ladder-bar setup and adjustable coilovers out back. A Vega-style steering box has been installed, and braking is handled by front discs and rear drums.

The cabin features a Glide Engineering bench seat trimmed in gray tuck-and-roll upholstery with color-coordinated door panels and carpets. A double-bend shifter has been installed along with lap belts and textured metal sill plates.

The banjo-style steering wheel is mounted to a tilting column, and an AutoMeter boost gauge has been added to the support bracket. An engine-turned bezel houses Stewart-Warner instrumentation consisting of a 160-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, oil pressure, and alternator output. The five-digit odometer shows 3,300 miles.

The flathead V8 was built for an 8:1 compression ratio with Edelbrock aluminum cylinder heads, and induction is through a Weiand 471 blower and an Edelbrock 600-cfm carburetor. Additional features include an electronic ignition distributor, a 12-volt electrical system, an electric fuel pump, and an aluminum radiator cooled by a SPAL electric puller fan. Short-tube headers flow into a dual exhaust system with polished finishers, and a battery cutoff switch is mounted in the trunk.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a BorgWarner T5 five-speed manual transmission and a Currie 9” rear end. The clutch linkage was adjusted under current ownership.
