Details
This 1986 Toyota 4Runner is in good condition for its age and mileage. The small 4x4 has a replacement 2.4-liter fuel-injected inline-four engine for increased reliability. The red paint over the beige cloth interior is an attractive combination on this classic Toyota.
The recently replaced engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission and dual-range 4WD transfer case, which can deliver power to just the rear wheels or all four.
This generation of 4Runner is famous for its removable fiberglass top, which is also painted red and houses a protective roll bar.
This particular example is equipped with cruise control and A/C. The truck has been slightly modified with a custom rear bumper and Blaupunkt stereo.
Recent work includes a new gas tank, windshield, and speedometer cable, rear bumper, and tires.
Third party photos and inspection were performed to increase transparency of the vehicles condition.
This 4Runner is available in New Mexico as a Premium Listing on CLASSIC.COM and being sold by Parker Frazier.
About the model
The first generation of the Toyota 4Runner was introduced for the 1984 model year and was available until 1989. It was available as a 2 door model only, in multiple trim levels (SR5, DLX, others), but it is now more commonly characterized by its multiple powertrain combinations, some of which overlapped during production. At its launch, it was introduced powered by the 2.4L Toyota 22R inline-four carbureted engine paired with a 5-speed manual transmission. In 1985, the 2.4L 22R-E (now fuel-injected) was introduced along with manual and automatic transmission options. A further evolution was the 2.4L turbocharged 22R-TE, available between 1986 and 1987 with automatic transmission only. Finally, between 1988 and 1989, Toyota introduced the 3.0L 3VZ-E V6 in both manual and automatic variants. The 1st Generation 4Runner was replaced for the model year 1990 with the 2nd Generation 4Runner.
