For Sale: 1965 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1965 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

"Nassau Blue Corvettes are seen by many as a rare and unique color for Corvettes. The mid tone blue color was produced on Corvettes during the 1965 and 1966 model years for the 2nd generation Corvettes and then returned with the introduction of the 5th generation in 1997 and continued through the 2000 model year. During the 1965 & 1966 production years, Nassau Blue was the most popular color with a little over 6,000 for each year.". Thx to Corvetteblogger.com

For consignment, a 1965 Chevrolet Corvette coupe in Nassau Blue and retaining its numbers matching engine. Power windows, power antenna, and a 4-speed manual transmission are just the tip of the iceberg for this American classic.

Exterior
Nassau of course is the capital city of the Bahamas and the water color is accurately depicted on this car. The Bahamas are home to 40 species of sharks and so it's fitting that this Sting Ray has a shark-like shape. A nose that's pointed, a hump that adds height like a dorsal fin, a center line that travels over the roof, vertical side gills, and a tail that ends in an epic apex that begins at the rear window and compresses gradually to the very end. The tops of the doors curve sharply inward fitting a sculpted groove when the door is closed while allowing easy access when the door is open. Metalwork that includes window frames, door handles, mirror, gas cap, light rings, and emblems are all in immaculate condition. 15-inch wheels with knock-off hubs are in place and the yellow lined tires complete the classic styling. The only imperfections we note are two minor scratches.

Interior
Like the caps on ocean waves, the interior contrasts the blue in striking white beginning with the door panels and the inner window frame. Over the glossy door sill and perfect door jambs, we find bucket seats that are pure white leather and complemented by a white center armrest. The walnut 3 spoke steering wheel is posted on a blue column leading to the infamous coved gauge pod with symmetrical circles, two large units flanked by two small ones on each side. The plastic and gauge faces are in great condition, as is the center stack in Nassau blue and housing a rather elaborate analog clock and the vertically mounted radio. The double hump dash repeats in front of the passenger with only the arched door of the glove box in front. A factory fresh center console is spotless and is home to a Hurst shifter replaced by the consignor when the Muncie wouldn't engage. Blue loop carpet fills the foot wells, covers the back cargo area and is in great shape. Above, the straight white headliner is in excellent condition.

Drivetrain
Under the hood is the numbers matching 327ci L79 V8 rated at 365 horsepower and topped with a 4-barrel Holley carburetor, tied to a non original M20 Muncie 4-speed manual transmission. Power is routed to the rear axle where our consignor states 3.08 gears exist, although the stamping code denotes 4.11 positraction. Disc brakes are supplied to the front and rear wheels.

Undercarriage
No surprises underneath as everything is very, very clean. Surface rust on the control arms and rear driveshafts, front knuckle, and some on the frame rail, but not much more. The dual exhaust flows back to a pair of stock style mufflers then exit via chrome tips. Coil springs are up front and transverse strut rods, torque control arms, and a transverse leaf spring makes up suspension in the back.

Drive-Ability
The car fired up, ran well, handled great, stopped on demand, and sounds amazing. Okay the clock doesn't work but that's no deal breaker! Everything else, including its ability to take our breath away, works just fine.

This is a beautiful collector grade show car representing a favored factory color and evidence of years of heartfelt work into its ground up restoration. It's impeccable and worthy of a look from discerning potential buyers. We would recommend quick action on your part as this standout likely won't sit long.
