This example represents the penultimate late development Berlinetta
Boxer. This final iteration of the venerable BB series is widely
considered the easiest and most pleasurable to own and drive,
benefitting from Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, replacing the
triple-choke Weber carburetors. This upgraded engine, dubbed 'Tipo
F110A', offered not only more power, but greatly improved
cold-starting and drivability. With just over 1000 cars produced
over four years, the 512BBi exemplifies 1980's iconic design and
future collectability.
Completed at the Ferrari factory, February 29, 1984, this 512BBi
was imported thereafter by Ferrari franchise dealer, Steven Kessler
Motor Cars, New York City's Ferrari franchise dealer at the time.
It was sold to its first registered owner, Mr. M. Sherman, a
well-known and respected Ferrari enthusiast collector and resident
of New York. This 512 BBi was kept in the same ownership until 1989
when it made its way to the West Coast of the United States having
been sold to Ferrari franchise dealer, Walnut Creek Ferrari, Walnut
Creek, California. It spent time in Norther California until being
sold to its new home, this time back to the East Coast and being
sold to, Mr. R. Huffman, NC, another well-known and respected
Ferrari collector-enthusiast. In 2002, the 512 BBi was sold once
again through Ferrari franchise dealer, Sport Auto, North Carolina
to Mr. E. Hammer, Georgia. It remained in this ownership until 2007
when sold to a dealer in Florida. In 2013, this 512 BBi was sold to
a Dutch Ferrari collector-enthusiast and exported from the United
States to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 2017 found this 512 BBi being
sold from its Dutch collector ownership to West Coast, California
ownership, in this instance the 512 BBi was repatriated to the
United States. This time, Southern California, and offered for sale
through well-known and respected dealer, European Collectibles,
Costa Mesa, California.
Since being sold by European Collectibles, the 512 BBi found it way
into its most previous ownership, this time back on the East Coast
and in Ferrari collector ownership in New Jersey. While in this
ownership, the 512 BBi has been driven sparingly while housed
alongside several other wonderful vintage Ferraris. It has been
cared for when and where needed to remain in its current
exceptional condition. Servicing has included an engine out, major
service including timing belts, coolant flush, new clutch, gearbox
oil, ignition and fuel systems serviced as well as an air
conditioning service.
Today, this 512 BBi represents in exceptional low mileage, serviced
condition and in its original and rare Black/Black color
combination. A superb cosmetic and mechanical 512 BBi on a recent
road test the 512 BBi performs as one would expect in ready to use
condition.
