Description:
This 1988 Chevrolet Corvette convertible is one of 125 examples
modified by Callaway Cars of Old Lyme, CT for the model year, 105
of which were equipped with the B2K option. It was first delivered
to Chevrolet Corporation in Brooklyn, NY, and it was initially used
by GM for promotional purposes, reportedly appearing on the cover
of Automobile Magazine in May 1988. Finished in white over red
leather, the car is powered by a twin-turbocharged 5.7-liter L98 V8
paired with a four-speed manual transmission. It is equipped with a
limited-slip differential, a white convertible soft top,
Callaway-branded 17? Dymag wheels, pop-up headlights, the Sport
Handling package, power-adjustable seats, air conditioning, and a
Delco-Bose sound system. The window sticker lists initial delivery
to the Chevrolet Corporation in Brooklyn, New York, along with
factory equipment, colors, and a total amount of $38,786.
Interior:
The cabin features power-adjustable bucket seats upholstered in red
leather along with matching carpets and door panels. Amenities
include AC, a Delco-Bose sound system, and an onboard computer. A
plaque on the center console identifies this car as #18 of 400
built for the 1988 model year, and a Callaway Twin-Turbo badge is
present on the center stack. The Service Parts Identification
sticker affixed to the underside of the center console's storage
lid includes option B2K. The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering
wheel frames a digital instrument panel that includes a
speedometer, a tachometer, and a fuel-level display as well as
numeric readouts for oil pressure, oil temperature, coolant
temperature, and fuel economy. A Callaway boost gauge is mounted in
the center stack.
Exterior:
The car is finished in white and features a manually operated white
convertible soft top, pop-up headlights, fog lamps, and quad
exhaust outlets.
Drivetrain:
The 5.7-liter V8 features twin turbochargers and intercoolers as
well as strengthened internal components. It was rated by Callaway
at 382 horsepower and 562 lb-ft of torque. Power is sent to the
rear wheels through a Doug Nash "4+3" manual transmission featuring
push-button overdrive in the top three gears as well as a
limited-slip differential. Callaway-branded 17? wheels from Dymag
feature Corvette center caps with locking bolts and are mounted
with BFGoodrich g-Force Sport tires. The car is equipped with the
Z52 Sport Handling package. Stopping power is provided by anti-lock
four-wheel disc brakes.
