Vehicle Description
1996 Chevrolet C1500 Pickup
Fleetside, (plural fleetsides), a pickup truck having flat
bedsides, (outside quarter panels). The rear quarter panels are
flat and run lengthwise along the wheel-well openings. Excludes
both stepside and styleside truck bed styles. A pickup truck is a
fleetside because the sides of the box are flat.
For consignment, a well-maintained truck that was treated to a slew
of recent service including a new fuel pump, fuel injector spider,
tune up, a Jasper transmission and a new AC compressor. Gracing the
South Mallway of our Hallowed Halls is the 1996 Chevrolet C1500
2-wheel drive hauler ripe for the picking.
Exterior
A respray in red paint, that presents well, floods this C1500 from
the great year of 1996. Straight steel with nicely minded gaps
abounds throughout this work truck with the only chrome being the
front bumper. A gray plastic bowtie emblazoned grille leads the way
with outboard rectangular deeply set glass headlights which flow
back to the slab steel sides and 2-door passenger compartment.
Black trimmings decorate the glass, mirrors and door handles and
covering the bed is a black vinyl tonneau cover looking just great.
Under the cover we see a used but not abused bed lined with a
rubber mat and we have a classic worker bee ready to take on
another 100K miles of faithful service or even be taken to the next
level for the show circuit. 15-inch black drilled NASCAR style
wheels are on and wrapped in 235/75R15 blackwall rubber which are
almost new.
Interior
A swing of the doors reveals an intricate use of tan molded vinyl
and many differing panels to make up just the doors. Inside is an
overstuffed vinyl and tweed pattern bench seat is seen sprawling
from door to door and provides seating for 3. The covered seat is
in excellent condition showing little wear. In front is the
original factory configured tan molded vinyl dash with a black
instrument cluster using the square and rectangle design that was
still popular during the 1990's. The factory AM/FM/Cassette player
is still in its mount and just below is the heater/AC dials and the
original airbag equipped steering wheel is looking just dandy.
Clean black rubber flooring is down below and remains clean thanks
to the care given over the years, and above is simple red steel for
the headliner.
Drivetrain
Under the hood in the original and clean unrestored engine bay, is
the factory 4.3 Liter V6. It is fed fuel by EFI and has a new from
Jasper 4L60E 4-speed automatic transmission on the back. A 10 bolt
3.08 geared axle turns the tires to get your cargo delivered on
time.
Undercarriage
Some slight surface rust is noted on the rear axle and suspension
and just a bit on the frame and we note red paint on the factory
flooring. The truck remains very structurally sound with solid
rust-free floor pans and rockers. Independent coil spring
suspension in the front works with leaf springs in the rear to give
this truck its ride. Power disc brakes are on front, and power
drums for the rear are seen. A stock style single exhaust system
handles removal of spent fossils efficiently.
Drive-Ability
She fired right up and was ready for anything the wilds of
Morgantown, PA could dish out. Although our test drive did not take
us to the general store or even Lowes, we just logged a few ticks
around the track, and she was proven to work well. Nice smooth
acceleration and shifting, bias free panic stopping, and easy
drivability. We did note that the A/C system even blew cold, and
all other functions were working as they should.
Whether it be your main mode of transportation, a second truck for
a farm or ranch or cabin location, or a future collectible to
enjoy, you are sure to have years of reliable service left in this
truck. Very little rust, garage kept and faithfully serviced and
cleaned, and it certainly will be well accepted as is. Go on, get
to hauling!
