The “X” indicates that it is a top-of-the-line model, similar to the upscale trim and in passenger amenities of Ford’s Super DeLuxe models. According to Ford Motor Company, just 2,716 Mercury 114s were built in all for the 1948 model year, prior to the introduction of the redesigned Ford models in June 1948.Sporting a glossy black paint finish, this rare 1948 Mercury 114X Sedan Coupe is understood to be one of as few as 365 examples produced in this body style. In addition to the wonderful Art Deco-inspired trim, including the stylized “Mercury” grille mascot and emblems, this 114X is complemented by gleaming chrome bumpers and accents, plus green painted steel wheels mounting bright trim rings, “Mercury” scripted hub caps, and period style blackwall bias-ply tires.
