Coiled...and ready to strike. That's one way to describe the Cobra.
For drivers that craved the absolute in performance, there was the
428 Cobra. This well-preserved and authentic 1969 Ford Torino 428
Cobra Jet was built at Ford's Kansas City plant on January 28,
1969, and delivered to Ford dealer Horns Williams Motor Company in
Dallas, Texas, but not sold to a customer until April 30th of 1970.
Perhaps the dealer wanted to show it off in the showroom for awhile
to attract customers - the reason is lost to history.
The Marti Report that comes with the car states it came from the
factory with the same color it wears today, Black Jade (code C).
The paint was refinished at some point and looks great, enhanced by
the Torino's sleek fastback, or "SportsRoof" styling. The black
bucket seat interior is original and shows its age with a patina
that lets you know this car was always cared for. Finding a
high-performance muscle car in this state of originality is very
rare. Equipment includes factory tinted glass, AM radio and is one
of only 932 1969 Torino Cobras fitted with factory air conditioning
according to its Marti Report. The black factory steel wheels with
BF Goodrich Radial T/A white lettered tires staggered 205/70R14
front and 245/60 R14 rear evoke memories of the highly successful
NASCAR seasons these Fords competed in when they were new.
Highlights:
• Rare 428 Cobra Jet engine
• Highly original car
• Authenticated with Marti Report
• Matching number engine with 50 miles on rebuild
• C-6 automatic transmission
• Rare factory air conditioning
• Bucket seats
• Factory front power disc brakes
This Torino is equipped with the highly desirable 428 Cobra Jet
engine with Ram Air mated to a C-6 automatic transmission. Ford
rated the engine at 335 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, but
that was probably understated for insurance purposes. Most
estimates put the 1969 Ford Cobra Jet 428s at north of 400
horsepower. Other factory equipment includes power steering and
power front disc brakes. The matching number engine has been
rebuilt to factory specs and had been driven only fifty miles
since. This rare muscle car comes with its Marti Report to verify
its authenticity.
