For Sale: 1950 Ford Custom in Watford, Ontario

Vehicle Description

Totally redesigned for 1949, the first all-new postwar Ford passenger cars were mildly updated for 1950 and advertised as being "50 Ways Finer in 1950." Since they were new, the 1949-51 “Shoebox” Ford models have remained immensely popular with enthusiasts, restorers and customizers. Retaining its excellent and unmodified original body and styling cues, this exceptionally well restored, upgraded and detailed 1950 Ford Custom Convertible is a highly desirable former California “Black Plate” car and as offered, it is simply outstanding and uncommonly high in quality throughout. Distinctively finished in Sportsman’s Green, a factory-available paint color, this gorgeous 1950 Ford Convertible features a top-quality Black canvas power top, body-color rear-fender skirts, gleaming chrome bumpers, correct bright trim, and body-color steel wheels mounting correct bright hubcaps and 1950s-style White sidewall radial tires. The inviting interior features a split front bench seat and is trimmed in Light Green and Black upholstery, accentuated by the Light Green dash and upper door panels, and lower Black vinyl door panels. Front and rear seat belts provide enhanced safety. Other interior highlights include the updated turn-signal flashers, Lokar floor shifter, 120-mph speedometer, OEM Ford steering wheel and heater, dash clock, a modern yet classic-appearing AM/FM cassette stereo, and under-dash Moon tachometer, with everything tied together by Black carpeting and matching floor mats. Underneath that gorgeously restored exterior, the Ford has been totally updated with a Hub-to-Hub Mustang-type independent front suspension supplied by Fatman Fabrications, plus QA1 front shocks, POSIES rear leaf springs, and Ridetech Air Ride over-leaf air bags to the rear. Four-wheel power-assisted disc brakes with SSBC calipers and power rack-and-pinion steering deliver a comfortable and relaxed classic cruising experience. Far greater power than the original “Flathead” is provided by a 290-horsepower GM 350 cubic-inch V-8 short-block crate engine, equipped with a dual-plane intake and Demon 4-barrel carburetor beneath a polished billet air cleaner. The surrounding engine bay is restored, nicely dressed up, and looks show-worthy throughout. Spent gases are removed by Sanderson headers feeding a great-sounding full-length dual exhaust system. Desirable supporting features include a 12-volt electrical system with Painless wiring, a March Performance serpentine-belt accessory drive, Pertronix electronic ignition, MSD Blaster ignition coil and Pro-Billet distributor, Mallory Pro Sidewinder ignition wires. Fuel delivery is via Edelbrock/Russell chrome steel fuel lines and Holley mechanical and electric fuel pumps and cooling is enhanced by an Edelbrock Victor series aluminum water pump, and electric fooling fan. A TCI Turbo 350 3-speed automatic transmission and torque converter sends the power to an 8-inch Ford rear axle equipped with a highway-friendly 2.79:1 ring and pinion. Accompanying this classy custom Ford Convertible is a thick file containing parts, restoration and service receipts, plus a wealth of technical information for all of the modern upgrades. The fully restored and carpeted trunk compartment also holds a fully covered battery, a custom storage pouch for the top-boot cover, a 1949-51 Ford Passenger Car shop manual, and miscellaneous spare parts. The convertible top’s hydraulics are freshly serviced for proper operation. Rounding out the extras are a framed 1950 Ford advertisement, spare key set, and California “Black” registration plates bearing 1968 renewal stickers. Ready to deliver an unforgettable classic experience with factory looks and modern mechanicals and amenities, this 1950 Ford Convertible is a wonderful example and a tribute to its builder, a true enthusiast. Canadian tax is not applicable.
