GM's Chevrolet division was certainly on a roll in the 1960s and
the high-style, full-size Impala model range led the charge with
handsomely updated styling cues and an amazing array of standard
and progressively more luxurious interior and exterior
appointments. As always, Chevrolet's immense list of
factory-available powertrain and comfort and convenience options
empowered buyers with the ability to custom-order a full-size
Chevrolet suited to their specific needs and desires. Upgraded from
option status to a unique Chevrolet series, the Super Sport was
available with the full range of Chevrolet power teams and added a
decidedly sporty flair to the Impala, including unique bodyside
trim and badges, bright interior accents, and a new-for-1964 design
for the SS full wheel covers.
Offered with just 4,282 post-restoration miles at the time of
writing, this handsome 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Sport Coupe is a
very well-presented, high-quality example with the all-important
"41447" VIN prefix confirming it as an original Impala SS with the
2-door hardtop Sport Coupe body style. Featuring a color change to
Ermine White - a factory color choice for '64, the Impala SS
features correct Trim Code 845 combination of Ivory upholstery and
Aqua to the dash, lower door panels, floor console surround, and
carpeting. Other interior highlights include the attractive and
correct white headliner, engine-turned lower dash insert, factory
tachometer, Delco AM radio, clock, power windows, and
heater/defroster. A correct wood-rim steering wheel with brushed
spokes adds appeal. The restored trunk compartment is in similarly
fine order, with a factory-style finish, mounted spare wheel/tire,
and roadside jack.
Power is delivered by an optional 4-barrel 327 ci V-8 engine,
sporting a correct air cleaner and finishes, breathing through a
full dual exhaust system and paired with a 2-speed Powerglide
automatic transmission. Power brakes include a modern dual-circuit
master cylinder. The factory grille, bumpers, chrome, and stainless
trim all remain excellent. Proper steel wheels mounting full SS
hubcaps and 1960s-style white stripe tires complete this popular
and highly enjoyable American classic.Appraised value of $85,000.
