Representing the last model year for the wildly successful
second-generation F-body models from GM, this 1981 Pontiac Firebird
Trans Am was produced at Norwood, Ohio during September 1980. Out
of total Trans Am production of 33,493 for 1981 - the lowest since
1975, this 1981 Trans Am was one of only 3,225 that left the
production line with a Chevrolet 305 CI V-8 engine and optional
T-roof panels. Offeredwith 34,620 kilometers (21,512 miles) at the
time of writing, the vehicle's Carfax report indicates just two
owners from new and it sports a recent, high-quality ground-up
restoration and build completed by the prior owner, resident in the
London, Ontario area. The sleek body was repainted during 2021 in
its factory-specified Dark Brown Metallic using a two-stage
base/clear system and the vehicle's glass, seals, and lights are
understood to have been newly fitted at the time of the repaint.
Given the vehicle's low indicated mileage, it is unsurprising the
Tan cloth-and-vinyl interior is excellent and virtually as-new,
from the upholstery to the headliner, console, and matching
carpeting. During the thorough restoration, the subframes were
stripped and powder-coated Candy Red up front and the rear subframe
was finished Black. The rebuilt and detailed suspension includes
new front coil springs and rear leaf springs, plus new bushings and
a full set of KYB Gas-A-Just adjustable shock absorbers. The
steering and braking (front disc/rear drum) systems were also
refurbished. According to the prior owner, the Chevrolet V-8 engine
was overbored and upgraded with a forged steel crankshaft,
oversized pistons, a General Kinetics camshaft, Edelbrock Performer
intake manifold, rebuilt Quadrajet carburetor, deep-sump oil pan,
headers, and a Pypes stainless-steel dual exhaust system including
an X-pipe and high-flow mufflers. Polished aluminum rocker covers,
billet pulleys, and a chrome plate for the high-capacity aluminum
radiator add appeal. Supporting upgrades include dual electric
fans, a swap to a heavier-duty Turbo 400 automatic transmission, a
2,800-rpm stall-speed torque converter, B&M shifter, and a
4.10:1 ring and pinion for the factory 10-bolt limited-slip rear
axle. The wiring, alternator, starter, and master cylinder are also
new items. The factory "Shaker" hood scoop and air cleaner assembly
remain in place. While originally optioned with A/C, the system was
removed in the interest of simplicity and lower weight. In addition
to the excellent optional T-roof panels, the Trans Am is equipped
with an OEM AM/FM cassette stereo unit and power windows. Road
contact is provided by a great-looking set of Pontiac 15x7-inch
"Snowflake" alloy wheels, mounting BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires,
sized 225/60R15 in front and 275/60R15 to the rear. Maintaining its
iconic factory looks with a high-quality restoration and select
upgrades, this low-mile 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am will deliver
a great experience with additional performance for an enjoyable
"modern classic" drive.Appraised value of $85,000.WE WILL TAKE
