Added to Studebaker’s top-of-the-line President model range for 1956, the Pinehurst 2-door station wagon is highly rare today, considering just 1,522 of these distinctive and versatile vehicles were produced. Previously owned in North Carolina and California, according to inspection stickers still affixed to the windshield, this Pinehurst was restored under a prior owner. Power is provided by Studebaker’s 2-barrel “Sweepstakes” 289 CI V-8, equipped with a dual exhaust system and delivering 190 factory-rated horsepower to a 2-speed automatic transmission. Finished in appealing Blue and White 2-tone livery inside and out, the Pinehurst is equipped with a pod-style speedometer/odometer, front bench seat and fold-down rear seat, a spacious cargo compartment to the rear, with access by a flip-up rear window and fold-down tailgate. In addition to a factory AM radio, updates include air conditioning with an under-dash register, a 12-volt alternator, seatbelts, and an under-dash Sparkomatic FM receiver. A mounted spare wheel/tire, roadside jack, and lug wrench are in place underneath the cargo-compartment mat. A photo album is included, documenting this very rare Studebaker’s body and interior restoration, plus the various show appearances it has made. As offered, it is an uncommon alternative to far more common 2-door wagons from Chevrolet and Ford, ready to cruise, show, and enjoy. Appraised value of $55,000 CAD. Canadian tax is not applicable.
