Called S197 internally, the fifth-generation Mustang launched for
2005 with a heritage-laced design, a new platform, and an available
24-valve V8 engine. Extending the wheelbase gave the Mustang a much
more compliant ride than its predecessor. Production ended in 2014,
and the S197 passed the Pony Car torch to the current-generation
Mustang.
Power comes from a 4.6-liter Modular V8, rated at 319 horsepower
and 330 lb-ft of torque. Output is sent to the rear wheels via a
5-speed manual transmission.
