Vehicle Description
Beautiful black-on-black Corvette. Nice older restoration. Solid
lifter 327 with recent Rochester fuel injection system rebuilt by
the late, great John DeGregory. Two tops with black new convertible
top. Original wheels included. Gorgeous, sorted, and fun to drive,
this Corvette gets everything right. This isn't a show car and it
isn't a pedigree car, but it does a pretty good impersonation of
both. It received a high-quality restoration about 10 years ago and
has been driven and enjoyed since it was completed. Finished in
sinister Tuxedo Black with a black interior, it certainly looks the
part of an apex predator and in 1962, this was probably the
nastiest car on the road. Today it presents beautifully with glossy
paint and great fiberglass with none of the usual issues. Gaps are
very good, there are no waves or ripples in the surface, and the
doors swing closed with confidence. Side coves were body-colored in
1962, so the all-black look is imposing, which seems appropriate
given the serious firepower under the hood. There's also some nice
chrome trim, all of which was restored or replaced during the
restoration and is holding up great. It wears correct 'Fuel
Injection' emblems on the front fenders, perhaps a small warning
for onlookers but it's kind of subtle, so go ahead and have some
fun. There's simply no angle from which this car doesn't look
awesome. The black interior was also restored to factory specs,
including the pleated bucket seats, new carpets, fresh door panels,
and that big steering wheel that makes it easy to muscle the
Corvette around corners. There's a proper 4-speed manual gearbox
topped by a cue ball knob, and the big, bold gauges remain a great
example of style meeting ergonomics. You'll note it has a correct
6500 RPM redline tach, exclusive to the solid lifter cars, and the
17,000 miles showing on the odometer are likely since the
restoration was finished. The secondary gauges are operational,
although the clock is not which isn't really a surprise. A
traditional Corvette grab handle for the passenger is probably a
good idea and the dash-mounted rear-view mirror is just plain cool.
The car includes both a recent black convertible top from Al Knoch,
as well as a color-matched factory hardtop that's in fantastic
shape. And the C1s are great cars to own simply because of the
usable trunk, which includes a rubber mat and a full-sized spare
tire underneath.The engine is a rebuilt 327 cubic inch V8 with a
factory solid lifter camshaft and a recently rebuilt Rochester fuel
injection system from noted expert John DeGregory. Unfortunately,
during the rebuild the block was decked and the numbers were wiped,
but we believe this to be a real 340 horsepower car with the fuel
injection added, making it one of the more entertaining early '60s
cars to drive. It's properly detailed with Chevy Orange paint,
finned valve covers, and that spectacular restored injection setup
that draws a crowd every time you open the hood. Correct hoses, a
generator, and original master cylinder complete the OEM look. It
also runs superbly with easy starts and ferocious acceleration?pay
attention or you'll blow right past redline without a thought. This
sucker loves to rev! It also makes wonderful sounds with the
properly adjusted valvetrain accentuating the rumbling exhaust
note. This is how Corvettes are supposed to sound! The 4-speed
offers crisp shifts and we believe there are 3.70 gears out back,
making this a seriously fast car, even today. Underneath, the
brakes have been recently serviced, the shocks and exhaust are
newer, and the factory fiberglass is in fantastic shape. No issues
with the frame and ride quality in these vintage 'Vettes is
actually pretty good. It's sitting on a set of vintage Cragar mags
with 215/70/15 radials, but the original date-coded wheels are
included with the car.If you're not a trophy hunter and instead
prefer to use your cars as intended, this Corvette should really
speak to you. It's beautifully finished but also properly sorted,
which means you can get in and go any time you want without a
second thought. It's not a perfect car and with the engine being
like it is, you don't have to worry about blowing up 40% of its
value by making a mistake. So get in, run it through the gears, and
put a big grin on your face?this car delivers. Call today!Harwood
