The Chevrolet Impala was introduced in the late 50's and became
their most popular flagship passenger vehicle joining the ranks
among the best selling American-made cars in the US. The name took
inspiration from the graceful antelope from the African plains
which was also used as the cars logo. It first premiered at the
1956 GM Motorama show and took features from the Corvette but
incorporated them into a larger design. This was a smart plan
because while families certainly would admire the Corvette they
were by no means a family car with only 2 seats. The Impala came to
the rescue as they now had a passenger vehicle that didn't
sacrifice style. Overall designs for the Impala rapidly changed as
they moved into the 60's with some generations only lasting 1 short
year before they were redesigned again. This 1968 belongs to the
4th generation which set an all time industry annual sell record
when more than 1 million units were sold in their introductory
year, 1965. They now used a "X" full width perimeter frame, a
sharper angled windshield, reshaped vent windows and a redesigned
full coil suspension. That being said they did still retain some of
the iconic Impala stylings like the dual double headlights and
triple taillights which had a horseshoe design exclusive to
'68.
This car is a true SS convertible and received a full frame-off
restoration in 2014 by the previous owner. Since then it has been
driven approximately 20,000 miles and has been well cared for. It
is painted in its correct Grecian Green that pairs perfectly with
the Black power convertible top that raises/lowers with ease. From
the grill to the bumpers and trim all of the chrome work is in
excellent shape with a beautiful shine. It wears all of its correct
Super Sport badges that are in great shape as well. The glass is
all good throughout with no cracks or issues. The car has a great
stance and rides on a set of 16 inch American Racing Torq Thrust
wheels with new BF Goodrich Advantage T/A Sport tires. It also
includes a matching full size spare.
Under the hood is the car is powered by a freshly rebuilt 350 V8
motor. It runs great and has approximately 3,000 miles on it since
being redone so should be rock solid for many more miles to come.
It is dressed up with chrome valve covers and a 327 Turbo-Fire
chrome circle air cleaner. It doesn't smoke and sounds great while
not being over bearing with a modest dual exhaust system. From the
motor, power is sent through the original Hydramatic 400
transmission to the 10 bolt rear end to get those tires spinning.
It has power brakes with discs up front as well as power steering
so it is a very comfortable cruiser.
The interior has been kept mostly stock and is done in all Black to
match the top. It has its original center console that features the
horseshoe style shifter and some storage space. The dual front
bucket seats and rear bench are nicely upholstered and in good
condition. That dash has all of its stock features and all of the
gauges work except for the temp gauge so a second temp gauge is
mounted under the dash. The trunk of the car has plenty of extra
storage space for your car show gear and is where you will find the
spare.
In addition to getting a an awesome classic convertible the car
comes with a high quality waterproof and sunproof car cover. This
Impala SS is ready for a new home and is sure to bring you many
years of enjoyment. It starts up well, runs strong, and gets looks
wherever it goes.
