Vehicle Description
2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Coupe SS Jeff Gordon Signature
Edition
Born in Vallejo, California, Jeff Gordon is third on the all time
NASCAR Cup wins list with 93 career victories. He's included in the
top 50 drivers of all time list from NASCAR and was inducted into
the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019. While his career earnings of $515
million is impressive and noteworthy, his charitable work and
philanthropic focus through his foundation has real and meaningful
impact. When the Jeff Gorden SS was originally sold, a portion of
every sale went to his charity.
For consignment, a 2003 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Jeff Gordon
Edition with a title verified 30,367 actual miles and has been
signed by Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, and Chase Elliot! When the
sixth generation of Monte Carlo was introduced in 2000, the SS
version represented the first front wheel drive version to wear the
moniker and NASCAR had influence into the exterior design,
utilizing the car in Pace Car version every year from 2000 to 2003.
To honor Jeff Gordon's #24 car, only 2,424 versions of the Jeff
Gordon edition were produced. The original window sticker will come
with this car.
Exterior
Galaxy Silver ground effects accentuate the Superior Blue Metallic
that adorned all 2,424 special editions. The sculpted duck tail, a
NASCAR influenced piece, is on the car and this particular car is
differentiated with light blue flames that cover the hood and flow
down to the fender and lick the shoulder line of the doors. "24" in
bold yellow that mirrors Gordon's car, is found on the front
license plate cover and on the C-pillars while the driver's
signature is on the trunk lid. Hendrick Motorsports, for whom Jeff
raced, is emblazoned on the rocker panel. The smooth lines of the
car and flush light lenses creates an aerodynamic machine that must
have been a vast improvement on the track as well, and on the
pedestrian version, the sunroof opens in an incline, almost like
another wing for downforce while the rear valance contains an
aggressive looking air splitter between the dual exhaust. Richard
Petty's autograph appears on top of the driver's door frame in
silver marker and we were hard pressed to find exterior flaws on
this pampered SS.
Interior
The flowing rounded angles of the outside are brought to the inside
beginning with the door panels of black and gray molded plastic in
a simple and practical design. Special two tone bucket seat with
gray leather inserts around an ebony border looks sporty and the
headrest is emblazoned with the yellow 24. The pattern continues to
the back bench where there's room and seatbelts for three. The
seats look barely used and that condition is consistent on the
inside, including the two tone leather wrapped steering wheel. A
succinct gauge cluster is front and center in a symmetrical layout
of large and small dials, black faced with red needles and there
again, a bright yellow 24. An integrated AM/FM/Cassette/XM radio in
center followed by the heater/AC controls with dual temp levers for
driver and passenger. On the passenger side, Jeff's true signature,
next to the emblematic one, and Chase Elliot's signature is there
as well. A gray topped T-shifter is housed in a black leather boot
in the center console of black molded plastic. Low pile charcoal
carpet covers the floor and still has the dealer plastic on it,
while signature mats are included with the car. Molded and cloth
covered panels complete the spotless trunk.
Drivetrain
Known for its reliability and easy maintenance, the clean engine
bay contains GM's transverse mounted 3.8 liter V6 good for 200
horsepower. A 4T65E 4-speed automatic transmission moves the car
keeping power up front with 3.29 gearing, while power disc brakes
slow it down.
Undercarriage
The underside is clean and dry with typical surface rust on
untreated metal components including parts of the exhaust system.
That single pipe comes from the engine then becomes two before
encountering the original mufflers, finally finding its way to the
back via chrome tips. Front and rear are equipped with independent
suspension.
Drive-Ability
We've had the pleasure of listing many Gen 6 Monte Carlo SS's over
the years and so forgive us if we repeat ourselves, but the
interior is a comfortable, roomy, and pleasant place to be. Ask
anyone who owns one and they will attest to it being a great
driving car. No surprises with this one as we take it around the
loop. Adequate power, nice road feedback, decent visibility and
handles well. All functions work as intended, and it's back to the
pits we go.
Though built to emulate a NASCAR hero and car, this vehicle does so
much more than turn left. Tens of thousands were used as daily
commuter cars and many still on the road. This one has been enjoyed
and now you can too. It's a show car you could easily take to the
grocery store as well, especially when you consider that sizable
trunk. Do not get black flagged from considering this ride, it's a
nice one.
