Paul Russell and Company is proud to present this attractive 1958 Mercedes-Benz 220S Cabriolet with a 4-speed manual transmission, finished in its original color of DB 353H Light Blue Poly and retaining its original black interior.
This 220S was delivered new in Rome on February 27th, 1958 and sold to Compagnia Industrie Saccarifere S.Eufemia Lamezia C.I.S.S.E.L SPA, a sugar production company on March 15th, 1958. The documents show that S.Eufemia Lamezia C.I.S.S.E.L SPA owned the car until September 27th, 1977 and had accumulated 71,470km when it was sold to Mr. Dario Frisardi of 154 Sanderson Ave, Dedham, MA. Mr. Frisardi would import the car into the United States (all the supporting documentation is still retained with the car) and take possession of the car on December 20th, 1977.
The 220S hadn't been stateside for two weeks before it was delivered to Dearborn Automobile Company in Marblehead, MA, where it would undergo a mechanical tune-up and a cosmetic refreshing.
Mr. Frisardi owned the car until October 19th, 1981, when it was purchased by the current, local owner. Over the past 43 years the current owner added an additional 35,000km and routinely maintained the car with Paul Russell and Company or other local European workshops. During his tenure, the car was repainted in the original DB 353H and several mechanical overhauls.
Most recently, between 2020 and 2023, this 220S has seen extensive service work including having the carburetors rebuilt, a brake system service (including a relining of the shoes, re-sleeving the cylinders and new soft lines), starter rebuilt, generator rebuilt, tie-rod ends replaced, new front shocks, new tires, cylinder head hot-torque, valve adjustment and new fluids and filters. All of this work was completed in-house by Paul Russell and Company.
Cosmetically the car is in quite good condition. Minor blemishes are noticeable on the exterior but the overall appearance is very pleasing. The car has recently received a full detailing by our in-house detailer. The interior presents itself very well with wear and break-in that can only comes from well cared for original leather. Receipts show that the top was redone in 1979 and appears to have been routinely stored in the up position and remains in very good condition.
After 43 years of ownership, the current owner has entrusted Paul Russell and Company to find a new caretaker for his exceptional 220S. After only three owners and 106,000km (66,000 miles), this 220S has been serviced and vetted for another long-term caretaker.
Included with the car is the original tool kit and jack along with excellent records, including the original Italian License booklet with inspection stamps, Instruction Manual, Import/Export documentation, Italian Automobile Club paperwork and copies of the service records.
