Description:
This custom Volkswagen Beetle was modified and refurbished under
previous ownership by D&J Auto of Fountain Valley, California,
using the chassis from a 1963 Beetle and the body from a 1955
Beetle, and it is finished in metallic yellow over a tan vinyl and
tweed interior. The car rides on a four-wheel adjustable air
suspension with a narrowed front axle beam and dropped spindles.
Power comes from an air-cooled 2,276cc flat-four that is equipped
with dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors and is mated to a four-speed
manual transaxle that has been modified with a "Freeway Flyer"
gearset. Additional details include an A-1 Sidewinder exhaust
system, electronic ignition, an extended capacity oil sump, and an
MST billet serpentine belt system as well as 15? five-spoke alloy
wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, a 12-volt electrical system, a
Dehne fuel level gauge, a Gene Berg shifter, and a retro-style
Bluetooth stereo.
Interior:
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench that have
been re-shaped with replacement foam and trimmed in tan vinyl with
tweed inserts. Matching door panels, a tweed headliner, and
replacement carpets have also been fitted along with a Gene Berg
shifter, lap belts, and a retro-style Bluetooth stereo with four
6.5-inch Rockford Fosgate speakers, a 10-inch subwoofer, and a Sony
5-channel amplifier.
Exterior:
The oval-window body has been refinished in metallic yellow and
features shaved beltline trim, 12-volt semaphore indicators, and
European-specification headlight lenses. Additional details include
ice pick-style door handles, chrome jackhole covers, Hella
"snowflake" taillight lenses, rear accent lights, and chrome
bumpers with overriders. Dark chrome-finished 15? five-spoke wheels
wear Porsche-crest center caps, feature flush-mounted valve stems,
and are wrapped with 145-series Michelin XZX tires up front and
195/65 Michelin Defender XT tires out back. The floorpan was
powder-coated black, and the car rides on a four-wheel adjustable
air suspension with a narrowed front axle beam and dropped
spindles. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes, and
work in January 2024 consisted of replacing the front brake hoses
and bleeding the system.
Drivetrain:
The air-cooled flat-four has been modified to displace 2,276cc
utilizing an (AK) dual-relief engine case that has been fitted with
dual Weber 44 IDF carburetors, an electric fuel pump, an MST billet
serpentine belt system, an extended-capacity oil sump, and a remote
spin-on oil filter as well as a replacement wiring harness, a
12-vots system.
