This 1962 Jaguar 3.8L model in its original Pearl Gray with black leather has been faithfully maintained and used sparingly by what are believed to be only 3 previous owners. Copious and well-detailed maintenance records go back to 1987 and the 85k miles indicated appear to be original. There is no record of a repaint and the body and brightwork are in outstanding condition with no evidence of rust or crash damage. The Webasto folding sunroof was reportedly installed at the factory and features a proper aluminum frame. All the interior wood has been refinished and restored and the leather has the perfect patina. A 15" wood steering wheel has been fitted and a rare, original Henlys center armrest/console was sourced, re-dyed & installed. Wilton wool carpeting was sourced and installed in May of '21 and is protected w/classic Coco floor mats. All gauges function accurately and feature LED lighting. The clock has been upgraded to electric & keeps perfect time.
The 3.8L XK engine in the Mk2 shared the E-type's block, crank, connecting rods & pistons, but had one less carburetor and 30 less horsepower. However, this example has been uprated with the E-type's triple SUs and a 4-speed OD gearbox from a 420G. The engine fires immediately and idles with characteristic smoothness. The gearbox shifts as it should and the OD unit lowers the revs at higher speeds allowing the Mk2 to function well in modern traffic.
Nearly $19k in maintenance & restoration was performed by the previous owner in May of '21 prior to our acquisition in Feb. of '22. Since then, we had a bespoke air conditioning system designed and installed by Classic Performance Restorations in Gilbert, AZ. The new A/C system blows ice cold and incorporates a Ron Davis aluminum radiator & SPAL electric fan to keep everything, and everyone, cool & comfortable in 100 degree AZ heat. An alternator replaces the original generator and the electrics have been converted to negative ground. 5.5" MWS competition wire wheels have replaced the original 5" wide chrome units [included w/the sale] and ride on new, staggered Vredestein Sprint Classic rubber. Koni shocks and a Harvey Bailey handling kit round out the suspension upgrades.
This is possibly one of the best Mk2s extant with great owner and service history, tastefully upgraded for modern-day use. Included in the sale is an owner's handbook, original carbs & manifold, original steering wheel, original rear wheel spats, original tool & jack kit, spare wheel & JDHT certificate.
