For Sale: 1992 Chevrolet Corvette in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1992 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe

In 1992, about midway through the Corvette C4 generation, the LT1 replaced the L98 engine. It had better components, better flow, and the fuel injection was sequential instead of tuned port. There are other differences too that provided fodder for countless conversations on Corvette forums for years. With every iteration of the C4, Chevrolet's aim was to constantly make improvements while providing a performance car for a good value. All told, just 20,479 Corvettes were produced in 1992 and 14,604 of them were coupes.

For consignment, a 1992 Chevrolet Corvette coupe with a title verified 42,558 actual miles and two owners on record. Plenty of people daily drove their C4's and it may be the last generation that was routinely used that way. Others were reserved for fair weather weekends and special trips. This may be one of those!

Exterior
The second most common color behind red in 1992, Artic White provides a clean and bright exterior. Without a lot of body trim, this is a monochromatic look that would make Storm Troopers envious. Integrated marker lights wrap the front corner of the car while hidden headlights are tucked under the hood. Like a jet, the cockpit is topped with a glass canopy and aids in the sleekness of the car's profile. Gill vents, four vertical depressions on the fender behind the front wheel were redesigned in 1991 and are a reliable attribute of any Corvette with a cool factor of 10. The tail of the Vette is a car lover's dream. Four round tail lights, a smooth, wide rear fascia, and dual exhaust, all low to the ground and planted by fat tires. 17-inch sawblade wheels are standard here and are directional and appear to be moving forward even when sitting in our photo booth. Try as we might, we were hard pressed to find flaws on the exterior.

Interior
Red leather wrapped door panels mix with a black armrest for a dramatic two tone inner door, sharply contrasting with the white exterior. Sport bucket seats in red leather provide lumbar and side bolster support and house seat controls on the inner seat support. Robust and wrapped in black leather, the standard steering wheel provides a good handle to pilot this sports car and the gauge cluster is arranged in a full arch with the speedometer climbing left, and the gauge cluster falling right, flanking an information screen. What looks like a digital screen in the center stack is actually a panel of idiot lights which monitors systems and warns if something is awry. Below it is the heat and AC controls and an AM/FM/Cassette/CD player backlit in orange. The shifter in the center console looks pristine and more seat controls are found just behind it. Low pile but plush red carpet adorns the floor, looks clean, and continues in the back cargo area. Red is prone to fading but the carpet here looks fresh.

Drivetrain
The 5.7 liter LT1 V8 engine is under the reverse hinged hood and it looks factory fresh. Kudos to the caretakers! This powerplant is rated at 300 horsepower and is fed via electronic fuel injection and runs through the gears via a 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission. Naturally, power goes to the rear wheels where 2.59 gears are found. Power disc brakes are employed at all four wheels.

Undercarriage
Relatively clean and dry underneath with just a little bit of road dirt but otherwise looking very much like a low mileage, pampered garage queen. The dual exhaust meets original equipment mufflers just before they send rectangle exhaust tips under the sculpted valance. Fiberglass leaf springs and aluminum control arms save weight in the suspension construction and aid in keeping the big 275/40R17 tires planted to the ground.

Drive-Ability
Dry weather gave us the green light to take the Vette for a quick spin where it performed as expected. At just 3,269 pounds there's plenty of power on tap and torque for days. The dashboard does feel a bit like an arcade game but gets the job done and is uniformly backlit in orange. All systems work including the electronics and we're satisfied with the test and pull the rumbling sports car back into the mall.

White C4's have been especially cool since Johnny Carson was seen driving his in 1984. Here's a low mileage C4 in fantastic condition awaiting its next caretaker. The redesign in 1991 that rounded the edges of the C4 helped create a more timeless design, and it doesn't matter that this car is now 32 years old, it will still turn heads and smoke tires.
