Perseverance is the key to building a true timelss custom. From the
frame up this '55 defies description. Longer you look more you'll

1955 Chevrolet Delray Custom lets start at the beginning. The 1955
Chevy is one of the most iconic classic cars in American history.
NEW for '55 was the wrap-around glass windshield, triangular tail
lights and smooth straight panels and lower profile hood. The 1955,
1956, and 1957 Chevrolets are sought after by collectors,
enthusiasts and hot rodders. Better known as the "Tri-Five's" are
Chevrolets masterpieces of design. Chevy captured the boundless
optimism of a nation. The Chevrolet Delray, named after the Delray
neighborhood of Detroit, Michigan is an optional trim level on
two-door models a distinct series of its own. It featured an
upgraded upholstery and color-coded to the exterior.
The details are what makes a Big Difference. The frame off build
started with a rust-free California body. The obvious challenges
are creating a new car ride but keep to the traditional look. The
frame and suspension have many modern upgrades such as front
tubular upper and lower A-arms, adjustable coil over shocks, power
rack and pinion steering, drop front spindles, and 1" sway bar
front and rear. Remember this is a cam engine so a major upgrade to
the braking. Start with Hydro-boost assisted tandem master
cylinder. Four-wheel disc brakes are a must have. In the front are
14" CPP disc brakes with drilled and vented rotors, and 13" rear
disc also drilled and vented rotors. The perfect choice for the
wheels and tires is Bridgestone Potenza P235/40R18 and P235/35R20
riding on chrome American Racing Torq-Thrust II to keep the classic
hot rod look and aggressive stance.
Performance comes from a 400ci Chevy SB bored .030 over to a 406
with a 4-bolt main. Plus, aluminum heads with polished air gap
style inatke with MSD Atomic fuel injection. MSD spark box and
distributor. An all-polished March serpentine front drive system.
This engine just shines! Matched to a 700R4 4-speed automatic with
overdrive and yes, a 9" Ford with 4.11 Posi traction Dutchman 31
spline axles. A 25-gallon aluminum fuel tank.
The natural flow of the body lines and trim compliment the '55's
two-tone paint scheme done in Dupont onyx black and metallic silver
with numerous layers of clear. The '55 looks so deep it appears
wet...Beautiful!
All new custom black interior; seats, door panels, carpet and
headliner (light grey). The black dash is highlighted by polished
aluminum trim. A polished Flaming River tilt steering column, and
Dakota Digital instrument cluster with black face keeping to the
traditional Chevy tri-five look. The vent windows have been
eliminated to give a sleek look and replaced with New Relics power
front windows. The tented wondows give that added pop to the
metallic silver paint. Electric windshield wipers are by Rain Gear.
What's cruising without great music? A Kenwood stereo with power
amp. Yes, this '55 has Vintage Air A/C and heating!
