Vehicle Description
"First fielded in the 1950s, the M35 family became one of the most
successful and long-lived series of trucks ever deployed by the
U.S. military. They were used in Vietnam and continued to be used
with various modifications into the late 1990s. The basic M35 cargo
truck is rated to carry 5,000 pounds off-road or 10,000 pounds on
roads." - Olive-Drab
This 1971 M35A2 2 1/2 Ton "Deuce and a half" was produced by AM
General and is powered by a Hercules multifuel engine with a
"Whistler" turbo. Power is distributed through a Spicer Split-Shift
5-speed transmission.
This M35 comes to a quick cold start and smooth idle. Over the last
4 years of the current ownership seasonal repair and maintenance
have been undertaken. Along with new fluids and filters some of the
recent maintenance is replacement of engine gaskets, cylinder head
and fuel injection cleaning, installation of an oil filter spin on
kit, and a re-cored radiator. New brake lines and pads have been
added to the air-assisted-hydraulic drum brakes. This year the
24-volt electrical system was updated with two new 12-volt
batteries and associated wiring. As seen in the included photos the
body and undercarriage are very solid with only minor imperfection
and scattered surface rust. The original interior is in good
condition with no excessive wear.
Included with this vehicle are vintage gas cans, a shovel, a pick
axe, and a Canvas Cargo Bed Cover with four ribs.
This vehicle is currently stored at the owner's home and can be
seen upon appointment. Under current ownership this M35 has been
used for local parades and fundraising events.
