In 2018, Ford enthusiasts and drag racing aficionados were treated
to a special edition of the iconic Mustang - the Cobra Jet.
Designed for the drag strip, the 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet was a
limited-production 50th anniversary beast that was built with a nod
to the iconic 1968 Cobra Jet, and combined the classic Mustang
aesthetics with cutting-edge performance technology.
Under the hood, the Cobra Jet featured a supercharged 5.2-liter V8
engine, producing an astonishing amount of horsepower. (The exact
power output was said to exceed 1,000 horsepower.) This made it one
of the most powerful factory-built Mustangs ever produced.
The Cobra Jet was purpose-built for drag racing, with features like
a unique four-link rear suspension, lightweight racing brakes, and
a 9-inch solid rear axle. The car also boasted a NHRA-certified
roll cage, racing seats, and a special drag race-specific coilover
suspension.
Ford limited the production of the 2018 Mustang Cobra Jet to a mere
68 units, (this car being #27), making it a highly sought-after
collector's item. Each Cobra Jet came with a unique serial number
and was ready to dominate the quarter-mile straight from the
factory.
The Cobra Jet paid homage to its historic predecessors with iconic
design elements. The classic Cobra Jet graphics, menacing hood
scoop, and sleek silhouette were reminiscent of the Mustang's
racing heritage, creating a visual spectacle on and off the drag
strip... all while clocking blistering 8 second runs.
The 2018 Ford Mustang Cobra Jet was a testament to Ford's
commitment to pushing the boundaries of performance. With its
powerful engine, purpose-built features for drag racing, and
limited production, the Cobra Jet captured the hearts of Mustang
enthusiasts and left an indelible mark in the annals of
high-performance American muscle cars. It remains a symbol of raw
power and speed, embodying the spirit of the Mustang lineage on the
drag strip.
