Vehicle Description
Gateway Classic Cars of San Antonio/Austin is pleased to present
this 1948 Studebaker Land Cruiser. "Sleeper" is a term used by
hot-rodders to describe a car that looks innocent and even sedate
on the outside but has hidden performance potential with a powerful
engine under the sheet metal. That moniker applies to this restored
1948 Studebaker Land Cruiser four-door sedan street rod. Outwardly,
the car looks stock, but all the original running gear was replaced
with a Chevrolet 305 CID V8 mated to a GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 700-R4
four-speed automatic that was refreshed during the car's
restoration in 2007 and it has approximately 13k miles on in since
then. The original front bench seat was upgraded to bucket seats
during the restoration when air conditioning, a tilt steering
column, and a Lokar floor shifter were also added. The rear seat is
done in the same red leather as the front and has a fold-down
armrest. The trunk carpeting matches the interior, and the spare
tire has a custom red vinyl cover. This 1948 Studebaker Street rod
uses Mustang II-style rack-and-pinion front suspension with power
steering that makes this hot rod easy to manage. The three-spoke
steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer and auxiliary gauges.
If you are looking for a classic cruiser with modern amenities,
this is the car for you.
