Oldsmobile Super 88 convertible for sale in our Mesa, Arizona
showroom. The Oldsmobile F-88 was a dream car created by Oldsmobile
in 1954, with initial sketches made by Bill Lange. The Oldsmobile
in the 1950's was the staple in many middle to upper class
driveways as it stood out from the Chevy but wasn't as high priced
as the Cadillac or Buick. These were mass produced, but only 6,452
were convertibles.
There is plenty of room for the family inside. The teal interior is
a factory correct style package. It is so intricate that those
looking will appreciate the vintage style and that it mostly
remains original. The Oldsmobile globe steering wheel is thin and
still has a lot of grip left in it! Peering through the large
two-spoke wheel are chrome gauges for amps, temp, speedometer,
fuel, and oil. Switches for the lights and wipers are to the lower
left of the speedometer. The lighter and ignition are on the lower
right next to the ashtray. Vent controls are to the right of the
steering column, and to the left are those for the
heater/defroster, and the emergency brake handle and warning
lamp.
The Autronic Eye is mounted atop the far left of the dashboard. Its
purpose is to automatically dim the high beams on the Super 88 when
the headlights of oncoming traffic are sensed. Then it will turn
the high beams back once the car passes, and no others are
detected.
This particular example is finished in Turquoise Poly that is
accented beautifully by chrome brightwork. (All chrome pieces are
in excellent condition). The body is straight, no bubbles or cracks
in the paint. The glass and weatherstripping are also in excellent
condition. The engine compartment is detailed to a high level and
painted in a glossy finish. Throughout the Olds, you will also see
the rocket 88 chrome badging as well.
The original engine is long gone, but we love that the consignor
replaced it with a 6.0L V8 with an iron block. Power is sent to the
rear with a 6L80E six-speed automatic transmission. She shifts so
smoothly while driving. Some recent upgrades are new front and rear
shocks in which they lowered the front by 2-inches and lowered the
rear 4-inches. You have front disc brakes and rear drum brakes.
Shorty headers connect directly to the dual exhaust system.
This Super 88 is a blast to drive. The convertible top works
perfectly and you can cruise top down or top up and get all the
