If you're looking for originality stop searching right now! This
survivor car has just over 6,700 miles that have been verified
through several documents and maintenance records that come with
the car. When the original owner of 43 years purchased this car, he
knew it was special! So, he kept all the documents including the
original special order sheet, bill of sale, build sheet, and
various other paperwork which will be included for the new owner.
It was sold to its second owner in 2021 with approximately 5,600
miles on it. He then started mildly "freshening up" the car and
brought it up to his standards. We then purchased the car from him
in 2024. The "Redbird" edition Firebird Esprit was released in 1978
and produced for only two years. This car is a true time capsule
from the late 1970s!
EXTERIOR: Redbird unique features: Roman Red (which wasn't
available on any other 78 Firebird) with Redbird red lower accent.
It also features gold striping, red grills and red snowflake
wheels. The exterior of this car is great! It has all original
sheet metal in place and is straight. The rubber bumpers are
excellent. The doors do not sag and easily open and close like a
new car. It is still wearing some original paint and some touch up.
Overall, it looks beautiful, smooth, and glossy. It does have some
mild checking on the 1/4s. The gold striping and graphics are in
excellent shape. The original 15 inch snowflake rims have been
professionally powder coated inside and out and are wrapped in
virtually brand new BF Goodrich radial T/A tires. The original
glass including the windshield is crystal clear. All the chrome,
trim, lenses and weatherstrips are excellent. This survivor is sure
to be adorned and respected by Pontiac enthusiasts wherever you
go!
INTERIOR: The unique Redbird interior features include carmine red
color, gold machine turned dash bezel and a red formula wheel with
gold spokes. It is loaded with factory options like deluxe cloth
interior, power windows, power door locks, rear defroster, tilt
column, AM-FM stereo and rally gauges. As I'm in our showroom
writing this description a customer came up and started talking
with me about the car. I mentioned it's originality and cracked the
door so they can take a look at the interior. The first thing that
came out of his mouth was "it still smells new"! I think that
descriptive pretty much sums up this entire interior. It is nothing
short of amazing, it's as close to brand new as you will find and
it's original! Sit inside and you will be instantly transformed
back to 1978 when this car rolled off the showroom floor. The
headliner does not sag, dash area is pristine, the seats show zero
wear! The door panels are mint, the carpet is even spotless! The
steering wheel, center console and shifter, plastic trim are
pristine! The cigarette lighter has never been used. It is as close
to perfection as you will ever find for a vehicle that's over 40
years old! It's totally amazing!
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: The engine compartment is very similar to the
interior as far as originality is concerned! It is very original
with some very careful detailing and maintenance. It is showroom
fresh! Pontiac used Chevy 350 motors, this one is the original with
all its original manifolds, carb, valve covers, air cleaner etc. It
is equipped with air conditioning from the factory along with power
steering and brakes. The alternator has been replaced, the original
radiator has been rebuilt, original master cylinder was rebuilt.
but is also original to the car. All the hoses and wires appear to
be routed the way the factory would. The backs of the headlights
and a/c box are raw fiberglass, hood insulation is mint, horns and
squirters are hooked up, etc. It is right, no disappointments
here!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Everything is impressive on this car including
the trunk compartment. Lift the lid and you'll notice it's pristine
originality instantly. The bottom of the lid and jamb have factory
original paint, stickers and weatherstrip. Trunk light works. It's
original insulated mat still looks new; underneath is mint factory
original spatter finish paint. The space saver spare tire and jack
appear to be original and possibly never removed from the trunk.
This is as close as you will find to a perfect factory original
trunk from 1978!
UNDERSIDE: Underneath looks like a rotisserie restoration.
Actually, it is original with some maintenance and painstakingly
careful detailing! All the steering and suspension is in excellent
shape, the shocks have been replaced. It has disc in front, the
calipers look to have been replaced. The lines and e-brake cables
are clean. The exhaust system has recently been upgraded with a
custom Pypes stainless dual exhaust that has an x-pipe and Turbo
Pro mufflers. The exhaust exits behind the rear wheels through a
pair of chrome splitter exhaust tips. The gas tank and fuel lines
have a fresh look to them. Looking up at the motor and everything
looks sharp with crisp blue paint and no visible leaks. The Turbo
350 transmission looks fantastic with no leaks as well. The 10 bolt
rear end looks great with smooth black paint applied. The frame is
solid and has been freshened up with satin black paint. The floors
are solid and rust free, they were carefully freshened with a coat
of factory style red oxide primer. What a great looking mostly
original underbody!
SERVICE: Our team of professional mechanics has completed a
thorough inspection on this car. No items were found to need repair
or replacement which is a rarity. This car is in remarkable
condition mechanically!
This car is extremely special and has been lovingly preserved since
day one! The investment potential of this nearly 100% original
special edition vehicle promises nothing but upside in the future!
It's a sure win! Loaded with options and documents you just can't
lose with a car as exceptional as this!
I, Jay Grams, take pride in personally writing the descriptions for
virtually every car for about the last 30 years now. A significant
amount of effort goes into fact checking. What I am offering is my
professional impression of the vehicle. Our salesmen are happy to
assist with descriptions and making sure your questions are
answered. One great suggestion is letting us do a walk around video
that explains the car's condition in detail. **These cars are
displayed in a museum. If interested in a particular car, make an
appointment with a salesman to see that car. Without an appointment
there is an admission fee to enter the showroom. If you buy a car,
your admission will be refunded, and you will be given a 1 year
membership.
