1966 Mustang Coupe (Survivor)
VIN# 6R07C185685
Mileage: 108,662
History: Bought new by Steve Senders from Marv Tonkin Ford on April 23rd 1966 in Portland Oregon. The car is still owned by Steve making this a single owner car (See video for interview). Being an engineer Steve has taken meticulous care of this mustang all its life. It has never been in an accident, has no rust and documents from new including the original window sticker, owner’s manual and the order documents when Steve bought the car from Marv Tonkin Ford among others. Steve moved to the bay area in California and took the car down there for ten years. He had the car resprayed a new vinyl top put on as the California sun had made them fade. The car spent the next thirty years being parked in his mom’s underground condo storage in SW Portland. He used the car sparingly over time so he had the entire car mechanically overhauled to make it safe and roadworthy. The car is extremely original and comes with records and ownership history. A wonderful survivor.

Engine & Transmission: The car runs strong with a 3 speed manual transmission and sturdy 289 V-8 is engine. This car still has the factory markings on the firewall and radiator support panel when it left the factory. The shock towers are the first place a Mustang will start to rust and this car is rust free. See photos of engine and nice dry underside. Many items were attended too brakes, exhaust, gas tank etc... See detailed photos of all the maintenance documents for Steve’s meticulous dedication to this car.
Body: Original sheet metal all around. Never been hit, good gaps and glass. Lenses are clean and all lights work as they should. Body panels are all straight. The paint (one respray) looks great but has some blemishes up close. I took a detailed video to show the imperfections. I didn’t erase the history of this car and have left everything intact. There are two IBM parking stickers, one in the front and one in the back window, from California and Oregon when Steve worked for IBM. The white vinyl top (which he had replaced) is in very good shape. Wheel arches and valences are very nice (see detailed photos). Very nice driver+ quality paint and body. Steve liked the convertible look but didn’t want a convertible so he ordered it with a white vinyl top to give it that look. New tires 2024. Very solid car.
Interior: The Red Crinkle Vinyl Interior is all original from the day he left the showroom floor. Comes with the original 4 floor mats. The driver floor mat is the only one with some ware marks on the edges. Headliner is clean, dash top is very nice. Doors are nice and you can see the rust free underside in the video. All seats are good with the exception of the driver seat bottom. It has three areas where the fabric has come apart. It would have been easy to fix this with new aftermarket vinyl seat covers but this is the seat that left the factory and I wanted to leave it for the next owner to decide on fixing the original or replacing it. The trunk is a 1966 time capsule. Original tools, mat and spare tire. Lights, wipers, heat/defrost, AM radio all work as new. Each Mustang has its own feel and soul and this one is all intact, it’s a joy to sit in this cockpit.
Summary: The Mustang is arguably the most restored car on the planet and this one has not been changed with the exception of paint and vinyl top. It’s pretty rare to buy a car from the original owner with all the documentation from new. It’s obvious that Steve’s engineering background has kept this car preserved with his meticulous nature and love for the car. Anyone can buy a Mustang that looks as good as it did when it rolled of the showroom floor but those cars have parts from all over the world. This car has all its San Jose California assembly plant parts intact. A true survivor.
