Two (2) Owner, Southern California 356, finished in its factory
color combination of Light Ivory (5704) over Red upholstery.
Hoffman Motor in New York City originally imported this 356 and
sold it to the first owner, James P. Holliday, from Pasadena,
California. Optional factory equipment includes
Sealed-beam-headlights, US Bumpers, and Boge shocks.
The paintwork is in excellent condition, with perfect gaps and
panel fit. The brightwork has been re-chromed, new seals have been
installed, and new decos have been fitted. Original and date-coded
components include the front hood, rear decklid, fuel tank, and
chrome seat recliners. The interior has been recently reupholstered
with German square weave carpets, red leather, and vinyl,
complemented by the VDO instrumentation, a factory VDM steering
wheel, and an Alpine AM/FM stereo installed in the glove box. The
4.5" x 15" painted steel wheels are mounted with Sprint Classic
Vredestein tires with chrome baby moon hubcaps. The undercarriage
and the suspension are in excellent condition and nicely
detailed.
According to the previous owner, this 356 was given to Mr.
Holliday's daughter and son-in-law. After several years of
ownership, the son-in-law opted to do a comprehensive cosmetic
restoration from 2005 to 2007. The restoration involved stripping
the body to steel, priming, and painting it to its original color
of Light Ivory. Auto's International completed all the upholstery,
while the brightwork was re-chromed by Sihiling. The engine and
transmission were rebuilt by European Collectibles. The total cost
of the restoration exceeded $60,000.00.
Mechanically powered by the matching 1600cc flat-four engine
producing 60 horsepower with a 4-speed manual Type 644 transmission
and a hydraulic four-wheel drum braking system. Complete with a
Porsche Kardex, spare, jack, tools, and restoration receipts, an
excellent opportunity to acquire a numbers-matching 356A T2 Coupe
that has been finished to a very high standard.
