1955 Ford Crown Victoria Skyliner: Acrylic roof
Ford’s Skyliner Crown Vic hardtop coupe was built only in 1955 and 1956 and was a revolutionary car combining an acrylic glass roof with the new Crown Victoria styling. Our 1955 model with a replacement drive train is outstanding in ways that make it among the finest of these rare cars:
For those who might wish to decode the car:
VIN: U5AF136305
Excellent from Top to Bottom
The excellent quality of the color-change re-spray of this hardtop coupe in Yellow and White makes you think you’re in the showroom at the Ford dealership back in 1955. The body is straight and the panel gaps are correct.
The chrome and stainless trim is all in excellent condition, setting off the elegance of the two-tone car.
The underside of this Skyliner is exceptionally clean.
The yellow and white vinyl interior is clean and fresh-looking, and is the perfect complement to the car’s paint scheme.
The headliner looks as new.
The lights, wipers, turn signals and horn all work as attested to by the current year’s Virginia State Safety Inspection sticker.
The yellow acrylic glass hardtop extends over the front half of the interior, accented by the chrome “basket handle” that characterized the new design of the ’55 Crown Victoria. The yellow tint to the acrylic keeps the interior bright but a newly-applied roof tint provides a filter from the sun.
The original Ford 272 cid V-8 cylinder engine was just (200 miles +- ago) replaced by a crate 351 Windsor which rests in a fully detailed engine compartment. The engine has been fitted with a Holly Sniper fuel injection system for greater reliability paired with a MSD ignition and distributor. The front accessories are all driven through a March pulley system. The new engine is kept cool by a Ron Davis aluminum radiator. At the turn of the key the engine comes to life with power that befits this rare car.
The car’s Ford-a-Matic transmission was replaced with a C4 automatic transmission.
The front disc brakes with an under-dash booster bring this Resto-Mod to a safe stop without any unusual pulling from side to side.
This Skyliner has been fitted with a dual-line brake system together with front power disc brakes for additional safety.
For convenience and dependability, the car has been converted to a 12-volt electrical system.
A brand new EPAS power steering system makes driving this Crown Vic in the city a breeze.
The car has Ford’s Magic Aire heating/ventilation system to heat and bring fresh air into the cabin. The original and working (at least one station!) AM radio features pushbutton tuning. The original clock relies on periodic winding to keep time!
The car has fender skirts and whitewall radial tires to give it added flare.
