For Sale: 1984 Chevrolet C10 in Morgantown, Pennsylvania

Vehicle Description

1984 Chevrolet C10 Long Bed

If the 80's seemed like 20 years ago, take a deep breath because 1984 was exactly forty years ago! That's right, Van Halen's album with the smoking baby on the cover is 40 years old. And suddenly cars and trucks from the 80's are classic, and this is especially true with pick-up trucks. Still utilitarian and viewed as work vehicles, trucks in the 1980's were not yet mainstream, at least in more urban and suburban areas. The boxy trucks were not really seen as cool, but now square bodies are climbing in value and desirability.

For consignment, a 1984 C10 short bed that's been customized, lowered, chopped, shaved, louvered and flamed. There's a long list of new parts and components, both drivetrain and suspension, and the cherry on top is the Hilborn style hood scoop that rises out of the hood. This truck and its blue flames may just be the cure for the blues.

Exterior
Something is different you think to yourself, and it's true, a 1989 C10 clip has replaced the '84 and that means it went from vertical stacked lights to a horizontal configuration. The truck is painted medium blue and even the grille is painted blue. Head's up, blue is going to dominate this description. The hood has eight rows of symmetrical louvers, breaking pattern only to allow a hole in the hood to show off the aluminum hood scoop protruding proudly in the center. Blue flames run from the front to the door post. Small billet side mirrors are mounted on the doors while black trim frames the front and rear windows. The tonneau cover is smooth and black, and the side panels of the bed are straight and clean while the top pockets have been filled for a streamline look. Blue dots are set into the tail lights for a bit more of the hot rod feel while the Chevrolet name plate has been painted to match the truck. Blue. 15-inch Weld Prostar wheels are polished aluminum, and for good measure blue valve caps have been added. The truck sits low on the wheels and the cab has been chopped 3 inches for an even lower slung appearance.

Interior
Blue crushed velvet door panels house the door actuator and window crank and have some discoloration. Similar material covers the bench seat which has tuck and roll stitching on the inner panels. A 4-spoke steering wheel, simple and clean, greets the driver and shares a column with an AutoMeter tachometer and shift light. Behind that, analuminum faced dash with some blue enhancement. A/C controls and an AM/FM/Cassette radio occupy the right stack. The skull handle tops a high shifter, cruiser style, which stands higher than the dashboard. The blue low pile carpet shows some wear on the driver's side but looks great on the passenger side and is protected by blue flamed rubber mats. More crushed blue velvet on the headliner in decent shape. The bed is covered in a rubber mat and contains a bleach tank and sprayer piped to the rear wheels for cloudy burnouts.

Drivetrain
Under the louvered hood you'll find a consignor stated 355 cubic inch V8 that is newer and is housing a .515 lift cam and roller rockers on Edelbrock heads. A Weiand tunnel ram intake is topped by dual 4-barrel Edelbrock 550cfm carburetors. The engine block is very clean and accessible and we note the A/C and heat has been removed. Our consignor also states the TH350 3-speed automatic is new and it has a shift kit with a 2,800-3,000rpm stall. According to the seller, the 10 bolt rear has a new 4.10 Positraction unit out back. Power disc brakes are up front with power drums in the rear backing them up.

Undercarriage
All relatively clean and dry underneath. Headers give way to dual stainless exhaust which intersect with TotalFlow mufflers and then exit behind each rear wheel. We note theabsence of catalytic converters. The transmission pan is polished, as is the diff cover. New lowering spindles, shocks, and hangers are present and accounted for. A driveshaft safety loop is in place. Coil springs soften the ride up front while leaf springs do the job in the back. Minor occurrences of surface rust are noted but they are essentially inconsequential.

Drive-Ability
There's a decal on the passenger side of the dash that reads, "Get in, Sit down, Hold on, Shut up". Is this a clue as to what awaits us? With two carbs and 275/60R15 tires in the back, the decal seems like a reasonable request. And indeed, the truck startedwith a roar and the intake, engine, and transmission recipe dishes out a sweet ride with responsive and quick acceleration. The height and chopped cab make you feel like you're in a car rather than a truck, until you look behind you and see that long bed. This hauler runs great, stops great, and looks cool. For the faux pas, we note the reverse lights are not working, the horn didn't toot, as mentioned no heat or A/C, and oddly, sometimes the truck wants to keep running after the key is turned off. I mean, can you blame it? But seriously, it sounds like an ignition switch issue.

This is not your average Chevy C10 short bed. It's been visually and mechanically altered to create a Friday night cruiser and weekend show truck while tame enough to be used for more mundane purposes like trips to the store. This is a low and long blue C10 with flames, and that makes it a unique ride by any measure!
